College Essay Topic.
#1
I'm struggling for ideas of what to write for my college essay. I don't really have any life moving experiences or major events that have changed me. I've looked around on some other sites but haven't really got anything that great. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks.

I wrote about one of my ECs and how it changed the way I view the world. It actually did, so my essay probably didn't come off as BS-y.

You should post your prompt so we have something to work with.

1. Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.
2. Discuss some issue of personal, local, national, or international concern and its importance to you.
3. Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence.
4. Describe a character in fiction, a historical figure, or a creative work (as in art, music, science, etc.) that has had an influence on you, and explain that influence.
5. A range of academic interests, personal perspectives, and life experiences adds much to the educational mix. Given your personal background, describe an experience that illustrates what you would bring to the diversity in a college community, or an encounter that demonstrated the importance of diversity to you.
6. Topic of your choice.

So In short I have freedom to choose what to write about. The lack of a required prompt is actually causing me to struggle.

Freestyle it, oyas! Maybe you could write about your perspective, how you see the world, and how you think you can make a change in it. One of my essays I wrote told about reality being multi-universal and how more closely integrated they are than most people realize. With novel twists of course.

But this is basically the college's way of saying "you're boring and probably unmotivated" if you didn't have anything life-changing. I BSed it, since I don't really care too much about what happens to the world, as long as it's not run like idiocracy.

Well you must have something happen to you. It doesn't even need to be big or life changing because it's how you're gonna elaborate on it and tell of how it's made you changed. For instance you can talk about how playing maple story allowed you to interact with all sorts of people and in turn develop character. Though I wouldn't talk about maple story, that was just an example. You need to expand on anything that makes you an intellect with potential and what traits you develop through the experience that would make that college want you.

^ this. It doesn't need to be huge, it just needs to say something about you. That's the important part.

Also don't talk about some random insignificant crap that happened yesterday and pretend it's a life changing experience. Chances are, they'll see through it. Depending on how much they care.

(Also I'm only reiterating what I've heard... no personal experience here. I've still one more year.)
