Nexon planning PvP in the future?
#1
I happened to stumble upon this article: http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/new...32293.html

It's in Japanese so I have to resort to Google translation, which means I could be interoperating this wrong.

Nexon have been doing a lot of these Q&A's since G-Star and most just talk about Evan. I did notice that they confirmed that KMS players will get a new slot so everyone can make an Even. If they keep releasing classes everyone is going to have a lot of character slots. Stunned

But near the bottom there was something interesting. They talk about increasing the size of their development team and possibly considering PvP?

Quote:I think we need to increase the size of the content team. Currently, they are doing to enhance the future of the team I would like to conduct further development in the early span. Right now direction that is adding a new Employment and Housing, PvP and we now like to consider the direction. Now I would like various elements also incorporated. content team is currently 6 people, we have doubled The immediate goal, that is. I want to speed up the implementation of the first span "and Che said.

I'm not sure what to think. I wonder if they mean PvP in the literal sense or more along the lines of the stuff that is already in the game.

The PvP systems already tried in game are subpar. Especially the CS one >_>

I honestly can't see real PvP happening unless they do a serious revamping of the class damage systems and the game physics. It's rather horrendous to contend with atm.

I can't see them implementing PvP either. Warriors will have a fun time trying to hit Thieves. Rolleyes

i thought things like cpq was considered PVP to nexon >.>

The better PvP MS has is Carnival PQ. That's the only way I can see PvP in MS going, and it's just not suitable for this game.

Unless they make a 'One-Class Room PvP' Which means, you can only fight someone who is in your class branch. Certain skills would also be restricted while others would be added for PvP only.Which would make it much more even but at the same time limited.

Anyway. The Maple Community decided that we're never going to get a decent PvP system due to lag and the classes not being balanced.

Even MUDs had a very easy way of preventing that - different damage ratios for PvP than for PvM, so while you do 100% damage to a mob, you may only do 5-10% to another player.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

Even 10% of 80k damage is enough to 1hko most ranged classes unless they have HB Tongue

Damage in MS doesn't really scale well - what works at level 120 will be broken by 130. And completely different from level 30-40. (10 - 200, 20 - 500, 30 - 2000, 40 - 3000, 50 - 4000, 60 - 5000, 70 - 7000, 80 - 12000, 90 - 14000, 100 - 16000, 110 - 18000, 120 - 20000, 130 - 45000)

SE is ridiculous though, my NL's max non-SE is about 35k. Max SE is more like 60k?

Don't scale the end damage - Scale the base attack.

A 1200 magic IL effectively reduced to 120 magic (56 base attack for bliz) isn't killing much of anything in one hit (max of 600 damage).
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

They would need to re balance

every

single

class

in order to get a PVP system going, or restrict about 80% of game skills. A Night Walker 10 levels under my Gunslinger can easily hit 2.5k, while my slinger rarely reaches 1k.

I just don't see it happening. However, there are much more intelligent ways to create a PVP system. The sheep and wolves party quest thingy is a good show of it. Simply give classes pre-set stats and skills and maybe a set number of potions, and everyone just plays balanced in the PVP room. This doesn't necessarily has to kill job uniqueness. Say if you're a magician, you get preset number of magician skills and stats, if you're a pirate, pirate skills and stats, and so on... the point again is, if we don't get preset skills and stats to balance everyone equally, the PVP is just going to be ridiculously horrible: o hai, level 180 bishop here, spam gene, everyone ded.

In order for PVP to work in Maplestory...

...they would need to implement an entirely new skill table for every class that is marked with the tab "PVP". Any of the current skills would one-shot, overpowered, and broken.

That, and Stars/arrows would need to not auto-aim.

This is what I was thinking. ^5 Biggrin

PvP would just be broken, considering someone could just wash a DrK up to 30k HP with HB and just never lose.

Well they could so something similar to the Balrog boss and nerf everyone to a standard level. Which would be kind of boring.

I wouldn't mind if they meant more PQ style things like CPQ. I do enjoy those when played right. But they are spoiled because everyone wants to just trade wins.

Eh, not really. Ranged can pretty much kill most melee easily by just spamming attacks and being stealthy most of the time.

I may laugh if someone said "I know! Let's challenge ItzmjauZ, she's lvl 200, I'm, lvl 2x so it will be ok!" or if you're from GMS, "I know! Let's challenge FangBlade, he's lvl 200, I'm, lvl 2x so it will be ok!" (I actually saw FangBlade "hiding" in the Thailand map in JMS xD)

I always thought PvP should work like:

Two people go in a room. Each gets say a boost in hp. around 10mill each.
Make it so that each class gets a set miss rate, like theif gets 40% miss. Warrior gets 10% and so on.

5 hits then blinking animation for a few seconds then back to normal.

I think that would work.
