Use gradients. When you make your borders you can style them a bit, I might write up a quick tutorial if you want.

When you use your fonts, for the "What if I'm not the bad guy" part, make sure you outline your text. To do that, go to layer blending options of the text layer. Go to the "outer shadow" tab. There, you're going to wanna switch it from "Screen" to "Normal", and change it to a color that will outline your font well. Mess with the size and spread of the outer shadow until it looks right. If you need more help you can PM me. I'm no photoshop wiz or anything, but I can help out with stuff like sigs and avatars.
