Throw some ideas at me
#1
Hello friends.

Starting my next short story for creative writing in a bit. I already have a lot of ideas of what to work into it, but I want some more since I'm having trouble getting going. Nothing ever ends up the way I envision, anyway, so throw stuff at me!

Suggest ideas, plot devices, events, etc. whatever. You get the idea. Try to suggest stuff for a horror/surreal story, since that's my usual and favorite. I have no restrictions on what I'll write. I don't mind any subject. About the only thing I don't do in stories is use the "F" word and happy endings. lol

Serious thread. Maybe it'll even give others ideas. Go. I'll be watching the thread and working on my story.

I'm obviously going to recommend zombies somewhere, although it is a bit clique.

Hot lesbian anime sex brutally interrupted by reverse werewolf Nazi zombie rape.

A horror story about reality melting away could be fun too. Write about people's last experiences as their world melts away... and they have no idea what the hell is happening, other than it hurts/is weird.

You probably don't need me to tell you this, but don't throw in zombies and cliche horror stuff like that. Browsing /x/ could give you a ton of ideas, but sometimes it's slow and good threads don't show up until later in the day.

Or, you could make another "Never Ending Story" but with Southperry deciding the main character's fate as he/she struggles to survive...

Horror/Surreal with bad ends? A plot revolving around revenge seems like a good place to start.

Planned to write another story for SP some day, but I'm such a procrastination failure that people will probably end up mad at me again. lol No, but seriously... I promise I'll get back to it eventually. Thanksgiving and Christmas break coming up.

Anyway! Loose idea for the story thus far: Dude goes mad (in some form) and the environment he lives in (I'm thinking emphasis on the walls and a light fixture) plays a role in that insanity. I have little else than that. It's going to be psychological, bizarre and a lot of "WAT" like the other stories I've written lately.

With that said, continue. Probably not gonna be vampires/zombies and the like.

Oh yeah, and it's due tomorrow so it will be done tonight. The one requirement we have is that setting has to play a huge role ("setting as a character" more or less).

Have two chronologies for the plot, one that runs forward and time, and one that runs backwards. And have a character like Christian Bale from American Psycho. Good luck.

But I love happy endings.. Does that mean Felix is screwed?

Your idea reminds me of the talking electronics in NHK. I enjoy a battle royal type of thing, but that doesn't seem applicable in this case. Are you going to be working with claustrophobia?

I can see the use of the guy going into elaborate "dreams" that spark with say, a sudden flickering of the light, and then waking up not knowing whether it truly happened or not. It feels too real not to have this nagging fear and anxiety, but the room remains just as it has always been. Wait, I think I was just describing surrealism.

Anyway, I guess this ended up more as a reaction than a suggestion. Nonetheless, I look forward to it.

Wat.

@ OP, I have some crazy ideas for video game plot devices that I want to try, but it probably doesn't work on pencil and paper >_>

Depends on how you define "screwed." lol

Sounds very similar to something I planned to do. Thus far, I've established the light fixture is a lamp passed down to him from his dead mother. Lives alone in a terrible part of town. Currently setting the mood and building the character/setting. Opening paragraph involved a near-dead puppy.

Always love to hear from you. Back to work.

I'm expecting 1 or 2 additional POVs besides the MC that'll bring emphasis on his insanity. Maybe a (best) friend or a close neighbor. Also, slightly confused on whether this lamp is supposed to keep him from going insane or is making him go insane. I'm getting a lot of Silent Hill 4/1408 vibes from this.

Loving the neighbor idea. That's actually pretty brilliant for what I was building right now. Or maybe the landlord or something. I'll be using it to some effect.

Lamp certainly isn't helping. Kind of a painful reminder of his empty life (both parents dead, alone besides a sister who doesn't care about him, bad part of town, dead-end job--you get the idea). I guess it signifies a happier time or his mother herself (who loved him). We'll see what happens.

Actually, hell, I really like it. I wasn't planning on writing it from any perspective other than his own, but now I'm totally gonna do it from his eyes and his neighbor's eyes. I think I can make it define how truly he's slipping into insanity (the eyes of a sane man can more easily highlight the insane acts of another, especially one who doesn't realize it). Or you know, something like that. Good thoughts flowing now.

Sora, thank you. Totally gave me the fuel I needed to get this running. Story is shaping up to be about two men now, both living in this apartment. One is the pitiful, alone and empty guy who is already near the edge after his life is so trash. The other is a tough guy with a loving side he often regrets. He's married, and he takes his anger out on his wife more than he should (and he knows that). Their relationship is actually good, especially considering where they live. She's tired of his verbal abuse but stays with him because she knows he loves her. I don't know exactly what I'm going to do with her character yet, but I'm thinking either a) something tragic happens to her, perhaps with the other guy or b) her bond with her husband grows after events of story.

Again, who knows. Fun stuff. Back to the original character again, and he only needs one last push to slip into the fun stuff.

You've just described Mark and Greg.

man finds girl, girl takes man home from party. man sleeps with woman, wakes up and finds himself in her body. she ties him down, then goes out and ruins his life and reputation, then returns to her place, makes love to him, then switches back to her old body.

The Body Thief. She'll steal more than your heart...
