A1. Introduction (Who we are and What we do)
Gunslinger in general are a very enjoyable class to play, whether it be from recoil shot/winging to places no other classes can reach to dishing out serious numbers on boss fights. We slingers have a very different "play-style" and some even argue that we are the funnest class in all of the adventurer race. Slingers are a fast attacking type of class that uses range as a weapon and relies on his/her agility, special summons, and elements to defeat their foes, in comparison their kind of like a mix between paladins and assassins. However it takes real patience to become a successful slinger. Early on, our attacks are fast but our damage is very low, and as most classes with low 1st job damage get a dramatic damage increase in 2nd job, slingers damage at 2nd job REMAINS low and is NOT on par with the other classes. Which leads to my forewarning. If your someone who loves to see BIG numbers early on and is looking for a class that can give those poor orange mushrooms a POUNDING, gunslinger is probably not for you. HOWEVER if that sounds like you, DON'T BE SAD! I'll gladly point you to the right direction! Here are some guides to classes that may fit you better.

A2. Types of Slingers
There are 3 types of Slingers. The unique Str'less Slinger, The funded Low-Str Slinger, and The average Normal-Str Slinger.

1. STRless
Str'less Slinger are as their name states Strength LESS. No that does not mean they have no strength and are weak, we are talking Ability Points (AP). Str'less slingers mean they push all their AP points into DEX FOREVER leaving their STR at whatever they started with. They would use common equips such as sauna robes, workgloves, Maple gun, etc. However currently, it is NOT recommended to make a STRless slinger because of the huge difference in weapon Attk between a GODLY scrolled Lv 64 Maple Gun and an average Reverse Blindness.

2. Low-STR
The LOW-STR is the most popular choice of slingers. To be LOW STR means your STR will be less than your level. This will require moderate to extreme funding depending on how LOW you want your STR to be. Items such as a Zakum helm should be a given, and an egged HornTail Pendant is also recommended.

3. Normal-STR
Normal STR is the 2nd most popular choice of slingers. Its simple to be a normal STR slinger. You keep your STR equal to your level until you reach what I like to call the STR cap for slingers which is 120. You will NEVER need more STR then 120 unless a higher level item is released in Maple in the future. Being Normal STR means you invest into DEX items.

A3. Pros & Cons of the overall Pirate

Pros
1. Very fast attackers.
2. Interesting abilities.
3. Gunslingers can hover in the air for a short period of time.
4. In first job, pirates have a useful dash ability that can accelerate movement speed.
5. Cheap equipment/scrolls.

Cons
1. Gunslingers do low damage EARLY ON.
2. A little bit difficult to get used to, very different than other jobs.
3. The Float ability is not so useful in training.
4. Difficult to train in 2nd job. (opinion)

A4. Misconceptions

There has always been a misconception that gunslingers are "weak". At this I laugh as should every other slinger in any version of maple. We are THE strongest class in terms of DPM at 4th job (this is not including calculations for Aran). This misconception was brewed up by noobs who played slinger 1st and halfway into 2nd job and quit. At 3rd job as outlaws we rival the damage of Low Dex Sins, and Rangers/Snipers, counting our octo and gaviota summons we even outdamage them on bosses. Here is a damage spreadsheet on 4th job single mob DPS.

Section B

B1. Becoming a Pirate

KMS - Kms has recently had a patch where all adventurer class instructors are placed in maple island, and auto AP inputs the necessary points to becoming a Pirate. Therefore if you're a slinger in KMS, just level to Lv.10 and talk to Karin the Pirate instructor.

GMS/Other versions - Just level to Lv.10 and keep adding points into DEX, you can worry about STR later. The requirement to become a pirate is 20 DEX which you will have easily. Once you've reached Lv.10, go to Nautilus Port, enter the ship, go into the portal with the ↑ on top of the doorway, then go all of the way to the left and enter the far left portal. Once there, talk to Kairin and she'll advance you as a Pirate.

B2. The Way of the Pirate

The First job pirate (pre-slinger) will rely on low damage and fast 1v1 attack called Double Fire and agility using the skill Dash. As with all classes your damage will be unstable until you acquire maxed Gun Mastery in 2nd job. Your ONLY mobbing skill as a pirate is somersault kick.

SP distribution (Lv. 10-30)

 Spoiler

End Build Outcome
20 Double Fire - Maxed
10 Dash - Maxed
20 Bullet Time - Maxed
11 SSK

Reasons for this build: Your primary attacking skill is obviously maxed first, followed by maxing dash for speed increase used to get distance from your enemy to help hunting, next you max bullet time also for obvious reasons, to increase accuracy. At last you put your last 11 points into somersault kick so you have some sort of mobbing skill that can be used in PQ's such as monster cleanup. Straight punch is ABSOLUTELY USELESS for the pre-slinger Pirate.

B3. Training area for the Pirate

Lv. 1-10
1. Maple Island Quests/Mobs

Lv. 10-20
1. Blue Snail
2. Red Snail
3. Pig

7. Blue Mushroom
8. Stump
9. Slime

Lv. 20-30
1. Horny Mushroom
2. Wild boar
3. Evil/Curse eyes
4. Sandmoles (moles MD)
5. Scorpions

Section C

C1. Becoming a Gunslinger

Return to Kairin at Lv. 30, When you agree to take the 2nd job test, you will enter a map with a number of conveyor belts and a large number of octopus monsters. Using Double fire kill the octopus. Continually defeat the Octopuses until you have collected all 15 of the items and then return to Kairin. You will depart the training room and be on the Bridge once more. Talk to Kairin again to complete the job advancement.

C2. The way of the Gunslinger

This is where slingers become unique your damage, while not increasing, becomes more STABLE due to mastery. As a gunslinger you have just changed your main attacking skill from the weak Double fire, to the mobbing Invisible Shot. Invisible Shot hits monsters one-by-one in succession. The most it will hit at any time is 3 monsters. Something special and unique about Invisible Shot is its strange range. It doesn't shoot as far as double fire horizontally but rather hits mobs slightly above and below your character, making it ideal to find platforms where you can snipe monsters above and below you by spamming invisible shot. The most popular place to use this method is B-3 and C-2 in Magatia, and the Golem Mini dungeon in Sleepywood, as seen in this example video.

An Example of C-2 invisible shot training:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAWioKicz...re=related

SP distribution

 Spoiler

End Build Outcome
20 Invisible Shot Maxed
20 Gun Mastery Maxed
20 Gun Booster Maxed
10 Wings Maxed
20 Recoil Shot Maxed
20 Blank Shot Maxed
11 Grenade

Reasons for this build: First stop off by getting one invis shot so you get a range mobbing skills. You can't successfully start invis sniping on platforms until you have invisible shot maxed. After you get one invis shot, Max Gun Mastery to give you more stability in your damage, and once you do that proceed to putting points back into invisible shot so you can start invis sniping ASAP. Next put 6 points into Gun Booster which will allow you to have 1 minute booster. Next to get recoil shot, put 5 points into wings then max recoil shot. Recoil shot helps GREATLY in C-2, you can literally jump from platform to platform and snipe and RARELY receive damage which is a HUGE pot saver. Once you max get blank shot. Blank shot is also useful when invis sniping. Once you maxed blank shot, max gun booster than put ur last 11 points into Grenade. Grenade is a totally useless skill, its just fun to throw at people!

D1. Becoming an Outlaw

Once you're level 70, go see Pedro [the 3rd Job Pirate instructor] in El Nath. The procedure is the same as other 3rd Jobs [quiz and boss fight with the 1st Job Instructor]. The Door of Dimension is in Cave of Evil Eye III in the Ant Tunnel.

D2. The Way of the Outlaw

Finally reached Lv.70!!! This is the point of rejoice for ALL slingers. THIS is when our adventurer really STARTS! Forget the low damage, forget the unpopularity in PQ's. As an Outlaw you will feel a HUGE damage increase. You're playing style will now switch back to something similar to first job, where you use Burst Fire (Triple Fire) to attack and kill mobs 1on1 efficiently. WITH A TWIST! Now you are able to FREEZE your monster as well as BURN them using your elemental skills Ice Splitter and Flame Thrower. Note that you would need Blaze and Glaze capsules to enhance your damage when using these skills. As if using elements weren't cool enough, you now have the power of 2 powerful summons at your side. Octopus and Gaviota!

FACTS: You need at LEAST 15 Gaviota to get the 4th job skill Air strike, You need at LEAST 30 homing to get the 4th job skill Advanced Homing.

SP Distribution

 Spoiler

End Build Outcome
20 Burst Fire Maxed
30 Ice Splitter Maxed
30 Octopus Maxed
30 Homing Beacon Maxed
15 Gaviota Maxed
26 Flamethrower

Reasons for this Build: First for obvious reasons Burst Fire is maxed to feel that huge damage increase of an Outlaw. The build I displayed here is the typical Jr.Newties sniping build. Once you maxed Burst Fire, you max Octopus to add DPS. Next I maxed Ice Splitter which once maxed can be used to freeze up to 6 mobs for up to 5 seconds, once you have Ice splitter maxed the number of places you can train grow greatly. Next I leveled Gaviota to Lv.15 the bare minimum for Air Strike in 4th Job, afterwards I put 26 into Flamethrower and lastly maxed homing beacon. Maxing Homing beacon is essential to get the 4th job skill Advanced Homing.

Other Builds:

The FlameThrower/Gaviota Debate:
Some people argue that flamethrower is more useful than maxing gaviota. Gaviota is completely replaced by Air strike in 4th job while flame thrower's damage can be INCREASED with the 4th job skill elemental amp. If you disagree and feel you would use Gaviota more than Flamethrower, you can follow Shrapnel (blitzkrieg/Tj) build.

Link to Shrapnel's guide:
http://www.sleepywood.net/forum/showthre...?t=1466421

The Gobies Build:
There also have been a recent Gobies build. This is a very unique and unpopular build but if you LOVE gobies, what you can do it max Ice Splitter and put 26 points into flame thrower right after you max Burst Fire. With the use of glaze and blaze capsules to enhance your damage, you can use fakeshot to stun the gobies house, finish it off, and macro ice splitter and flamethrower together to create a unique 6 mobbing skill to finish off the gobies. (The final skillset will be the same as the "Pro-Flamethrower" build.

Example of Gobying as an Outlaw Video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBFjMYXQykQ

The non Jr.Newties Build:
The Final skill set would be the same as the regular build except you max Ice Splitter right after Burst Fire. This allows you to train in many different areas once your Ice Splitter is MAXED. Examples such as Time Temple mobs, Blue/Dark Kentaurus, Dragon Turtles, Red/Dark Wyverns, etc.

D3. Training Areas for the Outlaw

1. Red & Black Kents

Section E (Not Yet Released)

NOTES FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCES

1. Leveling through 2nd job is kind of depressing when you see other classes around you do much more damage and excel in mobbing, however it really pays of in 3rd job.
2. I've found that 70-73 is one of the hardest parts, you're looking at 9%/h WHERE EVER you train, I suggest sticking in C-2 until 73.
3. I started Jr.Newties at Lv.73 with 25%/h
4. I Bloodleveled 6 levels for 480 hp (110-116) I currently have 4144 hp unbuffed at level 117 (no MoN)
5. From my bloodleveling I was able to kill skelegons/skeleros, my damage allowed me to finish them off in one freeze from my Ice splitter which gave me about 14%/h at level 117 compared to the 12%/h I would get sniping newties. However it was a huge pot-burner.

Just wondering, why post this here? Clearly this was made for KMS even though you tried doing it for GMS too, but there's already a decent gunslinger guide here. Goggleemoticon

Idk It took me alot of work to do this, and I just wanted to share it with people. It might not be that useful for gms slingers in 3rd and 4th job, but if it helps a slinger in anyway no matter how small it'll have fulfilled its purpose Heart

I purposely didn't use any images, I want it to be more like a reading guide lol idk. I didn't think images would have fit well. However I may add images in the future, I am just too tired out, took about 4-5 hours straight writing this guide Cool

I just used the Pros and Cons from Strategywiki. Ill edit it tomorrow.

Hey if you dont like it then you dont have to read it or use it, just dont insult me. It was my first time writing a guide and I'm pretty sure my intention was clear, it was to help slingers learn more about their class, and i'm SURE my guide can help few new gunslingers in the future. I get it your level 180, you dont need a guide, just don't insult me. and no it was not a waste of 5 hours.

yep. I haven't met a single captain who has fire burner maxed. it's just not useful at all to us. we train at newties from level 80 until we can go to skelegons, and gaviota is much more useful at newties than fire burner is.

kMS is pomegranate when it comes to high level content.

terry, those builds look suspiciously exactly like mine. what in fact did you change in this guide besides the wording and images..? for a new guide to be useful & informative, it has to present new information or some sort of incentive for people to want to read both the guide already on this forum and yours.

Hi Tj, the SP distributions are straight from your guide, the reason I put them in spoilers is because I'm not finished with them, i just needed a placeholder until I can take screenshots of my SP window and edit them according to my builds.

EDIT: I edited the builds according to my own characters build, sorry if it looked like I copy/pasted your build in the first place, I was just using them as placeholders. Also I added a link to your guide to show the difference between 2 builds, one maxing Gaviota compared to 26 flamethrower.

EDIT2: I added a notes from personal experience section to make it more original, I'll be adding notes as I play in the future Smile

Gaviota doesn't do anything. At all. One random monster takes a barely noticeable hit to its HP that doesn't affect the number of hits it takes to kill it.

I don't use Flamethrower at any Oblivion map for obvious reasons, and it's only kind of useful at Skeles, but it's excellent for any low level mobbing you might have to do. Just having a spammable mob skill that you can use in midair is great.

well i find FlameThrower VERRRRYYYY useful in Zakum runs since the first versions of the Opachu's are weak to fire and if you got no ship you would have no way to hit them (theyre also ice resistance) and since corsairs are so epicly pwnsome @ Zak you wont even need other classes with you (hero) cause u can easily clear mobs yourself Big Grin

Do not max Gaviota.

I maxed it and I barely use it after leaving Newties. Level 15 serves the same purpose as level 30. Max (or get level 26) Flamethrower. It's a decent mob attack until you max Torpedo or for when your ship is broken.
