JaredTheUnseen Wrote:Kefka's Trine can also be tricky to dodge, if you're unlucky like me and dash right into one of the blue triangles Frown I've been working on getting the Chaos Reports, so I'll have to play Kefka eventually to see if he's really weak.

I had my doubts about Garland and the Emperor, but they aren't all that bad. Throw out Thunder Crest, tons of mines, and two Flares then start Starfall. CPU dashes towards you, hits something, and then gets smashed by meteors Biggrin.

...what?

Trine's the easiest thing to dodge. If he trines you from a distance, just dodge towards him or something.

Duel colliseum, which is unlocked after beating Chaos. Trine is either easy or hard to dodge, depending on what you're doing. If you're wall-running, it's a pain in the ass.

Also, I love playing the Emperor, he's extremely defensive. But now that I figured out how to deflect Flare using Zidane, I lost interest in him.

I was using Light Crest (or something) in the air, and he started casting it somewhere behind me so I dashed and smashed into one of the triangles. It just depends on the positions. But yeah, the Duel Colosseum becomes unlocked after clearing Shade Impulse 4. It's where you get the majority of items to create weapons, armors, and accessories. You start off with three of the five Colosseums open. The fourth one is available in the PP shop right when you get the Colosseum open, and the fifth is available in the PP shop after clearing Inward Chaos.

Khoi Wrote:He's not weak.. His one Firaga attack is completely random and bad-ass. My friend will be abusing that to crush my Squall, because of it's complete randomness, though my friend claims there is a 'pattern' if seen carefully, and there's a correct and proper way to dodge out of it. So I'll have to play against Kefka to practice.

Against a human, maybe. But try fighting any NPC, they will wipe the floor with you because the element of chaos that he so heavily relies on is removed. Even so, I really think they need to make him stronger because in comparison to everyone else he falls flat on his face when it comes to HP attacks.

I've started actually playing on the ground more than the air as Zidane, where possible, particularly against melee-only characters (Cloud is a perfect example). Tidal Flame once or twice, then rush the enemy while they're dodging it and use Free Energy (for extra cool points, dodge into the air to attack - it looks pretty badass to flip over your opponent and unleash FE). Good timing will result in them not being able to dodge both attacks - they'll either get hit with TF or dodge right into your FE. Against characters that have a long, spinning/blocking animation, I've found Shift Break to be completely effective if timed correctly. Scoop Energy and Solution 9 are mostly distractions and hit and run, as they're easy to dodge/block and do little damage. They're also good for keeping me airborne in one spot. Stellar Circle 5 deflects almost any attack (This includes the Emperor's Flare) back at the user (Exception I've found so far is Shantotto's Poison, it simply destroys it) and crushes enemy defense. It also has amazing vertical range, good for someone trying to attack from above.

Only thing I find difficult about Zidane is his lack of strong BRV attacks. He has a few close range options (which I don't recommend, other characters will usually win out in close comboat), and some weak and predictable long range ones that leave you pretty much open to an attack. His strength is his HP attacks, which are very fun to use.

I got bored with it after I couldn't beat the damn 120 last boss. I tried with Cecil, Sephiroth, Cloud and Onion Knight, all of whom I had at 100 with nearly maxed skills. Too damn hard.

Try using Exdeath. I found him the easiest character to use to beat IC Chaos.

Just block and counter. The only attack you need equipped is High Block and Riposte skill.

It took me about 3 days worth of trying to beat Chaos with Squall at the end of Inward Chaos. He's meant to be annoyingly strong. As for dodging his attacks, did you read the battle tips about dodging his attacks? I can offer some help for dodging his HP attacks:

Divine Punishment: Don't move at first! After the fire pillars stop and you see little balls of light around you, dodge forward, towards Chaos before he teleports above you. You should get out of the way just as the swords would have held you in place. Then hit him with some counterattack.

Soul of Thamasa(sp): Easy to beat. Hit him with anything, it has a long charge time. Just be sure not to get hit, because you'll most certainly get wall rushed after it too.

DemonDance: This is probably one of his more deadly attacks, especially if he uses his summon to freeze his bravery. I found it a lot easier to dodge if you play with sound on. Every time he teleports, just dodge backwards from him. I find it easier to dodge on the ground than on the air.

Condemn: Another easy one to punish. He'll draw you in, so backstep to get out of it. Then he'll stand there for a few seconds so get in an attack after his pillar dies down.

Scarlet Rain: I still have trouble dodging this one. Apparently you're supposed to go into the air to dodge his initial blasts, then guard all the little spheres he shoots at you. Then dodge the last big sphere. Haven't tried dodging it yet.

I can do the brave attacks too, if needed. After you get dodging his attacks down, Chaos really isn't so bad. The key is to dodge then punish. Do just HP attacks for the Chaos at the end of Inward Chaos, because his brave is so high and his summon can bring it back up so quick it's pointless to try and break him.

Most of the "ultimate" weapons are classified as Special, such as Ultima Weapon. Although there aren't that many. The character specific weapons are level 50, 92, and 100 (for the heros at least) and you don't need any abilities to equip them. You'll need their battlegen stuff, and things from the Duel Coliseum, be them the actual items for trading or elixirs of various sorts that you trade a few of for one item. That probably doesn't make much sense, but play in the Duel Coliseum for a while and it will.

This was before I had some skills/equipment that I do now, but still a good demonstration of some of my fighting strategy.

It took me days to beat IC Chaos with Kuja, I did it with Exdeath in 10 minutes. Here's a video of the general strategy (since I can't record).

The attack where he emerges from the ground can be guarded with High Block in the English version.

I have been. I've been stuck on IC Tidus for about 12 hours now, and screwing around in duel coliseum to try and forge 'em.

Tidal Flame is my opener on land - I use it as a distraction, then rush in for Free Energy to hit them while they're dodging. Sometimes it actually hits them, and I get a really beautiful blue and red explosion Big Grin

What level is your Zidane in the video? I'm guessing in the 90's~100 range because of the 7k hp, but I may be wrong.

He's like 75-80 in that video. He's 100 now, wearing a full Imp's set. My gear is mostly BRV and EX oriented.

I finished getting Kefka to 100, and I can say he isn't really weak, just different than other characters. His game is mostly a fake out one, where you expect his attacks to do one thing and end up doing another. One that I found particularly effective was his Firaga that stays as one big fireball that changes speed a size. Send it off, then you harass your opponent with here and there Thundagas till the Firaga hits. They'll be stuck in place, so it's perfect to throw in the scatter spray Blizzaga for massive brave damage, or if you're nearby you can hit with Havoc Wing for HP damage. And his versions of Meteor and Ultima look pretty awesome too.

As for his HP attacks, Trine is nice because you can hit anywhere on the map with it. Havoc Wing is good for punishing blocked hits. Forsaken Null is amazing if you're far enough away to use it without being hit, especially in EX mode since it tracks opponents. Hyperdrive can be good, I didn't play with it too much but I liked the idea behind it. Overall, Kefka is a decent fighter. I don't know if I'd main as him, but his style is a nice break from that of other casters.
