Hmmmm first guild I was in was Nintendo, joined a few days after guilds came out : P Nintendo was crazy fun, really nice people and that was when I thought maple was at its prime in not content but fun, people cared for more than stats, levels and greed.

Then after a long long time in there moved to Repent with my GF, stayed until the Jr master and Master got hacked and had to move : P Floated around guilds for a while then joined my friends guild Enmity. I'm not too sure what I wanna do now, guilds are fun but then like everything they start to change, I don't really want to go through the trouble of trying to find a new one anymore, might as well make my own for at least mine and gfs mules Tongue

I join guilds for friends, but I usually end up leaving them in a couple days.
To me, guilds are sort of a nuisance. No one really wants to get to know new members and in the end, it's just sort of a lonely feeling.
Having an active buddy list is better since you know everyone and build a stronger relationship with them, in my opinion.

Joined my first guild when I started because of my friends; everyone knew each other and had fun. After a while, the leader got inactive leaving the guild dead. So, Then I moved onto a popular guild called Oddyssey and eventually, the leader got inactive too. Then I moved onto an old guildmates's new guild and then he disbanded it. So now I'm in this inactive guild called Irresistible. But the people that actually go on and the alliance is active so I'm fine. Smile

I join for fun and friends.

Hm I've been in a few guilds.. I started off in a random guild that I was happy to be in, cause the guild I helped people make they kicked me from as soon as they made it.. Yes lovely people eh?

I then went guildless for a while and guild hopped since some of the ones you get invited to aren't always nice..I found a great guild at lmpq and I was in that for ages..It got disbanded twice whilst I was in it one from the guild hack the other from an evil person hacking the leader, We tried remaking again but 3rd time it just couldn't get its feet off the ground so it disbanded.. Now I'm in a good guild with nice people. That seems to be active at anytime of the day. So yay xD

I prefer joining guilds with friends or people I know, why? Because at least then they won't go 'GET TO LVL 'xxx' and we will readd you...'

Found this thread interesting so thought i'd post. I normally join guilds simply cause my ms friends are in it or because I feel that they have a welcoming feeling to the particular guild. I could care less what levels are in them or the amount of "prestige" that comes with them but are just in them to have a fun time.
-On the flip side, I leave guilds once i feel that the fun / good times have disappeared, the guild has become disactive, or simply because I dont feel like i belong in it anymore. I figure that you might as well be in a guild that makes you the happiest whethers its big, small, pro, low leveled, active, or nonactive.
The nice thing about guilds is that the moment you join one a whole new group of people that you can meet emerge and give you the opportunity to get to know them. Most of my best ms friends i've met through previous guilds.

I personally believe that guilds are meant to be both a good source of conversation, and a good resource for finding connections to people you may not know personally who you wish to deal with.

I've only been in a few though, so my ideals are a bit limited in experience.

I joined a guild with the friend who invited me to the game in the first place shortly after they came and was later kicked by an errant jr.. The friend who invited me had been banned (yes, it turns out he hacked), but I still wanted a group to be with so I contacted them and joined again. A lot of time passed, I became a jr., and the guild became entirely inactive, so after much debate I left for a break of that guild to another, somewhat famous guild that I knew a few jrs. of. Later, after some ups and downs, that guild completely fell apart at it's roots and I spoke with my old guildleader. I took over the old guild and renamed it as "History" in hopes of bringing it back. I had some successful alliances and met a few more very good friends in that time, but overall, I failed at bringing back the old spark of our guild.

I recently disbanded the guild and tried out one of my friend's guilds, but the general conversation there was too sexually oriented, so I opted to leave and remain guildless as I am today.

Guilds themselves are tools. It is all about how you use them and what you have in mind when crafting them. Merchants use them for a price network; others for power; some for friendships; and even others still for textsex... As with any tool, it in it's nature is not inherently good or bad; all is based on how it is used.

P.S. tl;dr other posts, so I don't expect others to read mine either really.

Drgnslayers
This was run by a friend when I was in my late 20s/early 30s. It collapsed pretty quickly when members kept leaving. I joined alongside my then gf ShuzumeKeiko. She left to join Sevenstars, and I joined a little bit after.

Sevenstars
Run by MrDismember. It had a rough bit when he was gone for several months, but it recovered shortly after he returned (and I was made a Jr, yay). ShuzumeKeiko and I split up before he came back, and she left for BangBros, then quit. I left after most of the other Jrs did, thinking the guild was going to end soon (MrD had been commenting on wanting to join Pirates but being unable to because of guild leader position) to join my then gf MiniZane's new guild, Dimension. I returned for a day or two to be there when he officially closed the guild.

Dimension
I was pretty much an insta-Jr here, and had some fun moments. About 2 months, though, and I had a falling out with Zane and her roommate and ended up leaving. I joined Notorious.

No, No, Notorious, Notorious.
Notorious was a blast. Evan and Alex did a great job leading, and I made a lot of friends. It's where I made my contacts in AlandCrew as well, to which I owe my first 2 Zhelms (first was 13str so I got a reloot. Both were free on my first ever Zrun). Shortly after Evan and Alex left the guild collapsed under the leadership of Chris. I was a member for more than half a year, including my time in boot camp.

Dedication
I joined Dedication after Notorious fell apart (I think I was in some other guilds for a short time too, none left much of an impression on me) to be with a lot of my Sevenstars friends. Most started quitting or stopped playing, as did the leader, so I left about a month or two ago and joined AlandCrew to be with my Notorious friends.

My Guild History

FrozenDiablo - level 40 - A guild my RL friend made the first day guilds came out. He destroyed it after a week because it failed epicly.

Silency - levels 51-60 - was a cool guild, but the master quitted maple and we couldnt make new jr.masters, so everyone eventually quitted

BeautyNBrawn - levels 60-70 - The beran all-female-warrior guild where I met stereo for the first time. Pretty much all of us were actually guys.

StreetMonkey - level 72 - I don't even remember I was in that guild, I just saw myself there in some old SS

BoobSociety - level 77 - Another good guild, the master was a level 140 or so but decided to destroy the guild and join a high levels guild

TrueSoldiers - levels 78-79 - Another guild I don't remember

eXtremeDOOP - levels 80-82 - Nice guild, nothing worth mentioning

Chocolate - level 92 - Another nice guild

Thescarabs - levels 93-95 - my maple-bf's guild, he threw me out when he understood im a guy Rolleyes

Odyssey - levels 97-115 - I did a few zakum runs with them, eventually they kicked me

DragonLegend - levels 116-120 - Another nice guild

Odyssey - 120-123 - I re-joined them, but the master destroyed the guild and moved to bellocan

AngelicDemon - 123-129 - The re-make of Odyssey

At some point of time i was in ClubMilkyWay, but I got kicked after not wanting to share my map with the master.
