Other places to use Octo besides Newties?
#1
Are there any other monsters where Octo is reliable for training besides Newties?

I've tried to use it at various places but it always seems to either not attack fast enough to make much difference or stays summoned too long (can't use again when I move to a different plat).

Any spot that has a constant spawn where you don't have to make much movement is useful. Of course this all depends on the level of octo as well and how you train.

This isn't a great example but just before Destroyed Dragon's Nest, Black Wyverns spawn heavily on the bottom. I wouldn't recommend training on them, but its a spawn that could suit Octo.

Or if you level in a spot where you take one platform only while the rest of your party fights around the map. I did that in Time Temple when doing 999 quests on my corsair.

And of course, bosses. Leave them up as barriers to hinder them. When they are strong enough, they may be your reliable KB.

If you are an outlaw only (which is what it sounds like) then octo might only be useful at Jr. Newties and when farming in vast multi-platformed weaker areas (leavet hem to kill one platform while you handle the others) along with gav.

I actually do the opposite - when I leave a platform, I place Octo - it does some damage while I'm somewhere else, and helps me out a bit. When farming items from low level monsters, I place octo at one point, then go kill elsewhere, and check when octo runs out if anything dropped. I refuse to snipe newties, so I won't get much use out of it there.

The regular Octo, pretty much only Newties. The advanced Octo, anywhere. It can help bring the hits to kill down of any nearby monster.

Any boss that weapon def's, except Pianus. You can't really do anything anyways while it's up, so might as well place an octo. But you also run the risk of it attacking spawn, if it applies. Especially at Pianus, it can mean an instant kill. So make sure you know what the boss can do before summoning.

lol pineapple Pianus. I killed my party by placing an Octo once. I have a habit of putting it down whenever I can f1

I did it again when we boss PQed but luckily I Recoiled to the edge of the map so my Octo stopped shooting.
