What's causing all the inflation?
Style Wrote:I remember when glove att used to be 1.5-2m...11m is DEFINITELY inflated.

The inflation definitely isn't good, especially for those of us who don't have billions of mesos sitting around. Now I have to put a hold on pretty much any upgrading of equips....and as a low dex sin trying to get ready for my next weapon, it sucks :/

Same, I've been needing an upgrade to my glove for quite some time. As soon as I get the money to do so, BAM! - inflation.
its kinda lolable that some merchants think they can have that huge of an effect on the overall games currency, sure you can manipulate some items, which some are (glove atts, white scrolls, chaos, iblis, etc) all you need is a group of people with alot of meso to buy up stock. its not difficult to do. i've seen very small groups do it hundreds of times with sormcaster gloves to pet speed scrolls.

whenever theres cheap meso marketeers can step in and increase the inflation on anything. its a great time to do it given the circumstances. its always amusing though seeing people come out of the woodwork and exclaim they have personally "owned" the free market xD

every time mass inflation like this happens one thing occurs before hand; mesos becoming cheap to buy online. why buy nx when you can buy meso for cheap. everyone is buying meso right now. every heney hoe is buying a few billion a week instead of blowing nx on another nx look.

mesos fell in price (widely at least) a week before glove attacks even began to inflate. i wont list the site, but one of the largest meso sellers online began selling 1b for 60 dollars 2 WEEKS ago at a "promo" price. (throw in it being the busiest time of the year in the game when inflation is common anyway)

since then the promo has become perm and has only continued to lower. the real worry is that given all the variables, you could see inflation get out of hand and ruin the game. meso is devaluing at a speed ive personally never seen and the sellers continue to cut price to move product (some are already pushing 35+ dollars for 1b).

why the meso sellers are deflating their product so heavily, basically throwing it away is what none of us know, yet...
I agree with the above post. Legit merchanting alone is not enough to throw the balance of the economy like some of you are describing. Otherwise it would have happened long ago. The MS economy is definitely small enough to be manipulated, but not this much. The mesos have to come from somewhere.

The only way mesos can be devalued to the point they have now is through some sort of mass meso-farminng operation or a meso-duping hack. Somehow someone has come up with a way of injecting a ton of mesos into the economy very fast.

The only flaw with this - Where is this hack?

It's happening on such a tremendous scale it would have to be fairly public, it's more widespread today than nodelay was to have reached this level of damage already, and if that's the case it should be easily verified to exist, but so far I've seen not a peep about it on any of the usual places.

Anyone find any proof of it?
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.
..and it better come to a slow down soon, cus i dont think actual legit (non-meso buying) and non-full time merchants are gonna be able to survive this mass inflation.. i mean.. cmon, claw att 30s being sold for 50m and glove att 60s for 17m+ in broa already <_<

No idea, I was just speculating. I don't think it'd take more than a small group of hackers to cause this damage, though. One or two meso selling sites with infinite stock and there we go, entire economy gets fucked up.

GFA 60% is being inflated to 400% of its original price

other scrolls like dagger 60%, top luk 30%, overall dex 60%, aren't being inflated very much in comparison. the inflation is definitely targeted and not the result of more people simply having more money.(well, other scrolls are inflating some amount, but not to the extent of GFA scrolls)
My guess is that they discovered a new way to generate meso (most likely a new hack). This forces the issue on the market. Lowering the cost, more people would buy, thus effectively targetting the quantity. The buyers will either buy more (due to cheaper rates) or getting more customers for the site.

On the other hand, merchants in game thinks that it's a good time to inflate, so they decided to. The buyers will still buy things, and the hesitants will more likely to consider buying meso. Merchants have indirectly creates demands for meso sites (or directly, if they're involved with those sites).

To think that merchants actually "help" legits is seriously sick. Hard working legits has to pay more for everything while their income remains the same. Rich kids will just consider alternatives. How could merchants even think of out-playing a source with infinite meso? You can inflate, they can inflate more. If you claimed that you're incomes are all legits, you're screwed.

which is why i said straight off the bat that the reason for the inflation was meso sellers and meso farmers =) what i said after that was how it worked. i never claimed that merchants were the sole cause of this particular inflation in all prices. =P

Did you read iCollector's post? It's a hack. Did you also read the part of his post that talked about how the merchants have done this? It's not hard to get 10 bil in a week of good merchanting, if you know what you're doing. Legit merchants have had YEARS to amass all the meso they're using now, so it's no surprise some have tens to dozens to HUNDREDS of billions of meso. Even one person with 100 billion meso is capable of monopolizing the GFA market for however long they please. By the way, understand that the way they KEEP throwing the balance is by SELLING what they initially bought. Sure, you'd say that the 100 bil disappears very fast, but once the buyer is in control of the price, they can make back however much they need in order to keep up the monopoly.

And again, that's just one person. Multiply that purchasing power by every elite merchant in GMS, and you have the ability to throw the market.

As I said earlier as well, the elite merchant community is the smallest in GMS as well (and the smartest, in my opinion), and thus are capable of vast lines of communication and well-thought-out planning in order to coerce something like server-wide inflation. And I'll say it again: with all of this information in mind, you should recognize that merchanters have had the power to throw the balance of the economy for a long time now - they just haven't ever had an opportunity like this to make money off such power (or at least, this MUCH money). This is the answer to your rhetorical assumption about why they haven't thrown the balance before.

EDIT:

Please read iCollect's post on the other page, as all of your "guesses" are confirmed, er, I should say WERE, before you posted.

I still believe that merchants have helped legits with their inflation, but I do see your point about hesitant legits shocked into buying meso by the inflation creating more chaos in the game as well. The only thing I could say to counter that negativity would be hoping that legits understand what meso buying is before they make a decision.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

To all legit players who are shocked by the recent inflation and are unsure what to do:

DO NOT BUY MESOS!

Yes, the notion of wealth is appealing to anyone with a conciseness, but don't be fooled into defiling your character by falling into the meso purchasing trap. Understand three very important aspects of meso buying: (1) the mesos sold on meso buying websites are ILLEGIT. They're currently being obtained through a hack, meaning your $45-60 are going to buy HACKED mesos that ruin the economy in the first place for all legits players, and in the end come back to hurt you once you've inflated prices but can't buy any more meso to afford what you all of a sudden need. (2) Meso buying is also viewed by the legit community as an act comparable to hacking, thus making your character illegit. Say goodbye to Horntail, Zakum, CWKPQ, etc. runs and perks of being a high leveled legit player if you're a known meso buyer, and (3) since the mesos are accumulated illegally, Nexon has the power to not only permanently ban meso farmers, but also meso BUYERS as well. That's right, your legit 4th job character that you slaved a few months over could be gone in a second simply because you chose to buy mesos when they were ridiculously cheap.

/dramatization

The point is guys, meso buying is just as bad as hacking and can set you up for account punishment if caught. It's immoral and wrong, and I would hope that legit players would not so quickly change themselves in order to keep playing the way you always have. MS is not life, but Darwin's principles of adaptation still apply: learn to adapt yourself to change (in this case, economic downturn) while staying true to yourself (remaining legit), and ride out the maelstrom to better days. Take advantage of the situation at hand to better yourself as well, because not only is adaptation necessary for survival, but so too descent with modification - or in this case, the ability to advantageously adapt to the change out of your control.

it only takes 10mn to get max meso on a new char. One guys is plenty enough to screw the whole economy up.

P.S.: iCollect: you're still easing "meso laundering" and part of the process of the destruction of MS for your own use because you can and it's free... thanks dude Tongue I can't find the english translation for the french word "recel", i'd apreciate if someone could help me

And if you spread 100bil out between people who werne't expecting it, they pay more for things when they buy them, since they can, and it spreads out. And it goes back to the marketers, with interest.

As for there being a hack, once unlimited mesos can be generated it doesn't really matter how many people have it. When they're spending it, the same thing happens. Only a few people actually duped White Scrolls a while back, but lots of people ended up with the results.

Not to mention that there's a chance that the mesos obtained by those sites were from hacking other people's (legit or hacker) accounts and selling the items to stockpile even more mesos to sell. I haven't heard many incidents of this being the case compared to the amount of hacking/botting going on for mesos, let alone if this actually happens, but the possibility of this just adds to the illegit nature of this act. Has anyone sent tickets to Nexon regarding these sites and the people who use the sites? If not, I highly recommend sending mass tickets to them to make thm more aware of the current problem. Including any major meso buying sites in the ticket would be a bonus. I also have a strong feeling that they will change the ToS and add this situation in. Once they do something though =/

nexon's fully aware of meso selling sites.. considering they sit in full FM's and ch1 towns everyday spam advertising..

and theres no way nexon can do anything to the ppl who buy mesos, since most of them do it on mules.

And Nexon's solution: sell 1b mesos in Cash Shop for 10 bucks so people stop buying from those sites.
Dusk Wrote:And Nexon's solution: Send DMCA notices to the meso-selling sites so that they will be shut down permanently. Sue them if necessary if it comes to that point. Update the ToS to the current situation.

Fixed.

step 1) Spend not even 30mn to get a new URL somewhere else
step 2) change the String in their ad-char
step 3) voila

we'll always have to deal with those guys, Nexon needs to fix the root of the problem : meru generation
lol gfa were 8m yesterday and they inflated to 15m today -__-

OK, let me just clarify something so you wont feel any more pain in your behind. While your so-called "confirmations" pretty much what you're reading on a public forum, without actual actual personal knowledge (IE if I am not sure), it will remain as a guess. I dont feel obliged to re-iterate heresays nor wanting to say I know, or it's absolute when I am not sure. Keep your subjective thoughts to yourself. Unless there's absolute proof, I am entitled to my opinion and my belief and when I am not 100% sure, I'll state so.

Inflation creates demands. Demands for meso. Average legit players can only stock up so much. The rate of earning meso is still pretty much the same. Monsters doesnt drop any more due to inflation. So when there're high demands for meso, you can pretty much guess what many are going to do.

Also, it's a bit absurd to think mechants and meso sellers are opposing entities. Merchants target profits, meso sellers targets conversions. More meso injected into the economy means higher inflation. This benefits both sides. Merchanters creates demands for meso, and meso sellers satisfy those demands. Together hand in hand, they're working nicely. It's close enough to assume that they're one big entity working in different factions.

If they're to compete against each other, given the current unlimited meso funds assumption from meso sellers, they'll wipe out merchants easily with their buying power.
