Limitations on other family members affect you.

This is a true story, happened just before I typed this.

So I was just chatting on IRC. Suddenly, I hear angry screams from my mother.

Only me, my stepmom, my stepbrother and half-sister were home at that time. And she wasn't shouting at me (she never does), so it had to be my stepbrother.

I listen to what she's saying (in Chinese).

It appears that my brother asked if he could play (MapleStory), or my mother was unsatisfied with his work and decides to shout at him telling him to "go play".

My brother was not allowed to play yesterday. He has a limit on how much he can play a day (2 hours) due to his shortsightedness and addiction.

Today I ask him if he can play. He says "I think.".

After this happens, I myself (even though I don't have a limit) don't dare to play.

What should I do?

Hmmm, I would let it blow over the night a-@ no reason to have you stepmom mad at you for really no reason.

ya never know, parents will go off for no reason, based solely on guilt by association. Your brother wanted to play Maple, she got mad because he had the nerve to ask, she sees you playing, has a freaky flash back, and next thing you know your on the ground fending off her smackings of doom. a-@

Well, if you're not an addict and you do good in real life and at school, there shouldn't be a problem. Your stepmother will be able to see that even if you play a lot, you manage to balance that out at school and all. She'll even be able to take as an example to show your brother that he needs to take life in hand and organize it. That's why his limitation to computer is needed. It's for him to learn to not abuse it. It's a good way for him to learn to adapt himself to real life too. You can never get all you want and it's a 100% positive that he will encounter situations where he is restricted.

I'd say go play..your step mom was mad at your brother not you. So his limitations has nothing to do with you. And if your mom sees you on MS and tells you to get off, then get off the game.
