Effective Elderwraith Training (Corsair)?

So like I recently hit 4th job for my gunslinger and have been trying out the new skills. I've been training at newties since lvl 80, so I've grown really tired of that place. Since I'm more of a solo person, I've never trained with a bishop/arch mage, so maybe thats why I got really tired of training at newties alone. =/

Anyways, I "kinda" found great use of the elderwraith map for corsairs. (I'm not sure if this has been brought up yet cause I tried searching and didn't find anything about elderwraith training for gunslingers.) The use of Battleship and torpedo works great in the map. =) The exp wasn't too bad either.

I'm sure many people would think the battleship would break every second with the elderwraiths swarming around you. But it doesn't really if you know how to properly mob them.

First, I would mob them and then constantly shoot torpedo. Everytime they got close enough to touch me, I immediately dispatched from the ship and recoiled, followed by boarding the ship again. So yeah, my ship doesn't really take any damage. I was using lvl 1 torpedo, so I was only able to hit 4 monsters at a time. If or when my ship does die, I spammed flamethrower (yay another use for max flamethrower Big Grin), invisible shot, and aerial attack. Because ice splitter can't freeze them and does only 1 damage, flamethrower makes good use here. =D I apologize if this is a very vague explanation, so I recorded how I trained there.

This map is somewhat like himes I guess. =/ I found this as an alternative training spot if I get bored of newties or if maps like himes are completely full.

In a way, you would be wasting lots of pots if you don't properly recoil over the elderwraiths. I was thinking maybe partying with a priest and have the priest mob the wraiths together (I have not yet tested this method yet). It would be a good strategy, except the priest would be the one using mp pots cause the elderwraiths do 2.4k damage without invincible, unless the priest doesn't mind. XD It would benefit priests too, cause they probably will get a decent amount of exp.

Pros:
-Decent exp
-Constant Spawn
-Money from selling the drops [elderwraith drops can be turned into Lita Lawless for money + exp or sold in FM for a good amount of money (not sure about selling in FM for other servers)]
-Easily able to mob the monsters
-they drop Dark Crystal Ores
-lots of open maps
-if a headless horseman pops up, its like an extra 300k exp xD
-not a crowded place, so little or no ksing will take place

Cons:
-if a bigfoot spawns, your dead xD
-waste lots of pots if not consistent with recoiling past the elderwraiths
-long walk to the map =(

So your opinions on this alternative training map? Chin

Nice discovery. I wont try it because I'm scared of bigfoot, though. Frown Its nice to finally have another GMS Corsair video on youtube, too. Rolleyes

I laughed my ass off at your alliance guild chat, too. XD

Interesting......could be a great spot for the sprouting, fresh-off-the-advancement Corsairs needing a spot to master using their boat. ;D

Doesn't look too efficient. Even soloing Skeles would be better than this.

I must say that it can be a good place for hermits too. I mean, I kinda tried it, and with drain, it's hard to survive, but quite fun. Not bad exp either. I only stayed for 30 soiled rags, though :p

Himes is a lot better than Wraiths yo.

Although I dunno if you could kill them fast enough. They move faster and you couldn't even kill the Wraith mob before it got to you.

You could also sit in a corner and just use cannon as they come to you one by one (even those on the other side of the map will work their way to you).

I tried this a few days ago and it wasn't too bad. I can't really provide numbers since I didn't stay too long (See below Rolleyes). Ship did take a lot of damage though, and since I didn't max Flamethrower it wasn't too pleasant for me.

Bigfoot is a problem since it can really catch you off guard. I've had it spawn on the map and run me over...

Not true. I bombed as a CB and i was standing in the middle and they got mobbed up on the sides eventually. Not saying it wouldn't be better than what this guy is doing, but it's not like you can just sit there.

I've trained for 2-3 levels on that map as a F/P mage. Just by leaving a poison mist and spamming explosion, the mob never got below two elderwraiths and that was by staying at the left side.

If you stay at the right side the spawn is much heavier and is hard to keep up (more than 6 elderwraiths at a time, can't slow and KB all at once).
Also, the spawn takes a long time to start slowing down, and then you just have to move to the middle of the map and then back to the corners.

Of course that was not at level 120 and instead at level 85-90. so was doing 2-3k per explosion on them.

nothing is better than the bottom right of newties for a corsair.

- The middle of any platform (top, mid, bottom)
- The entire middle platform plus the top platform with Air Strike - 6.5-7m exp an hour solo for me, about the same as soloing Skeles. I don't do it anymore though since the pot burn is heavy and Skele parties are better since my party member won't be confined to killing only 4 monsters on the bottom.

The bottom right doesn't require you to freeze monsters on both sides of you which is why I prefer the bottom to the middle. You can freeze as soon as they spawn, spam torpedo, use octo once they die followed by an air strike, and repeat on the respawn.

You have to move to hit all 4/9+ though Goggleemoticon

I'm speaking from experience on my DrK, where I sat in the right corner and had a constant flow of EWs coming my way. I'd kill one, and another would float its way over to me. I sat there for a total of 10 minutes farming their etcs and never once had to leave the corner. Occasionally I'd have gaps in killing, but only waiting for respawn/wraiths to come to me. My best proof would be the pre-JQ map - If you are on the bottom, they'll come from the top of the map down to you, even if you're nowhere near them. Vice versa for the top. I've acted as an EW lure to keep them away from a Ranger in this fashion. Just remember that they move very, VERY slowly.

ya but you don't have to try and freeze a mob on both sides of you. which sucks when they spawn at the same time.

But you kill faster. You don't have time to kill three Newties, recoil over to the other one, kill it, and still Air Strike. Also, half the time on the middle platform I don't even bother freezing one side. I freeze the left side, kill the transforming one, kill the left side, and kill the far right one that can't hit me. Top is also better than bottom right because you have two Nest Golems and you can usually kill the Newtie on the left before it attacks you and freeze the right.

Just a note, a friend of mine trained at Elderwraiths on and off at about 90-110 as a hermit. She liked it because it was like Himes, but better money because of farming/selling the etcs, and no KSing.

I could see it working for a corsair, too, it just might be a little past the level range of the area... I can see Recoil/FJ being used in much the same way there.

Though, having lured away the Elders for friends who were killing BF there, I feel the spawn isn't enough to support a priest lurer, really. Not anything like Himes.

Their touch damage is a lot higher, ruining the ability to take hits without HB, ruining the ability to turn of Magic Guard, which is so essential to not hemorhhaging mesos at Himes. (I still have only ~1600 HP at level 124, and with my decent HP equips only about 2k. Using MG at Himes in my 8x, I used nearly as many pots as my 16x I/L friend who was training me, who was using Blizz a LOT... because of my much-lower MP.)

Also, IIRC Elders were harder to hit at a low level... Kept missing into my 8x, after I could 100% hit Himes.

Just wanted to give my impressions as a (former?) priest. =)
