So I was thinking of picking up the Disgaea series because I love tactics games and can never seem to finish a FFT game that I start. (Fail...)
But there's 3 different versions of the first game. I did some research but still can't decide.
The original has songs that the remakes do not have, and slightly different actors and scenes. But missing the ability to go from horrible eng dub to jap & sub, as well as multiplayer and extra features.
The DS remake has touch screen, but missing some scenes from PSP, as well as the jap & sub selection and graphics that aren't as good from what I can tell. That's... about it.
And the PSP version has everything the DS version has plus the missing stuff, minus touch screen. That's basically it.
The PSP version really is the most likely version, unless the DS's touch screen makes a big difference to where it's THAT much more fun. And granted, the missing songs from the original could be good enough that someone might recommend that one.
So, which should I go for?
(Also looking for a big tactics fan player, to help keep me from just leveling and cross-classing like insane, which is why I keep ending FFT early... Just PM me.)

No.
Quote: * Geo Cubes A new addition to the PSP version, Geo Cubes are magic items that add more depth to multiplayer battles. They can be used to enhance abilities, summon monsters, or to attack the enemies.
* Demon Gadgets Randomly generated items that appear on the battlefield. Units can power up by acquiring these gadgets. Some demon gadgets can level up a unit by 30 levels at once.
* Unlockable Characters - As well as the unlockable characters from the original Disgaea, Adell and Rozalin from Disgaea 2 will be unlockable as hidden bosses within the Cave of Ordeals, as well as the Dark Assembly guide, Pleinair. Overlord Zetta will also debut as an unlockable, playable character.
That being clarified, it doesn't really make that much of a difference. Personally, I would go in the order DS > PSP > PS2. If you really want the voice overs, go for the PSP. You don't lose much by not being able to use Pleinair or Zetta. Touch screen is pomegranate. It shouldn't be a reason to use it. I can help out a bit with Disgaea if you're having trouble, but I'm still plodding my way through it myself. Haven't had the urge to play it recently.

I saw those too, but thought it was copy-pasta from the psp, so I thought they were also included in the psp version.
Found a topic on gamefaqs that gave the comparisons. Seems the only thing that the PSP has going for it is... Jap voices and subbing. I just wish I knew Japanese, then I'd just get the Jap version.
Well, before I commit to it, is the dubbing really bad? I'm still recovering from Baten Kaitos...

Well personally I would go for the PSP version over the DS version but that is just because I have more experience with the PSP than DS. The PS2 version's song (while badass) isn't enough to make up for less content. That and it was a pain for me to find my PS2 copy.
Oh and I don't mind helping either. I just have the last couple parts of post story left to do (that and make my characters godly).

I didn't like Disgaea at all. Nuff said. But the PSP one if I had to choose.

Honestly the dubbing wasn't ear gouging bad. You don't hear it all that often in the DS version anyways, but you'd definitely hear it in the PS2 version.

Is it like TWEWY, where it's tolerable, but obviously not the best?
And are the extra characters worth it? I want whatever version has the most story and challenge.

I've never played the PS2 or DS versions, but honestly, I can see a reason why you should get the PSP version over the DS version- battery. When the PSP shuts off... It just sleeps. Turn it on, progress is back.
DS shuts off... you just lost all that leveling.
Disgaea is an awesome game though, but I have yet to beat it.
Since you seem to have a PSP, I'd suggest getting Prinny, it's spin-off, if you have the time/patience. It's a pretty hard platformer, but a whole lot of fun. (Comes with the (uncomplete, unfortunately) OST, too)

Uhh. I have no clue what that acronym stands for. Just google for a Disgaea cutscene and you can hear it. I think the extra characters are more for fans of the series, but yes... I do believe that the DS version does have the most extra bosses.

It's The World Ends With You.
And are the extra bosses challenging like the extra bosses of the remake of Zelda:Ocarina of Time, (They only did more damage. Pfft.) or challenging like the Weapons in the FF7 North American release. (Which would kill you if you didn't fully think through your strategy before-hand.)

Well, the whole appeal of Disgaea is the stupid hard bosses simply because of their level. Infact, that's the main pull of the entire series, stupid high numbers on EVERYTHING.
Seriously. When this is a normal enemy on the later parts of the Item world in Disgaea 3

Invincibility block probably, but still, even the capacity to do 3 trillion damage is... something not matched in other RPGs
