How do Gunslingers and Hermits compare...
in damage at various levels?
in Survivability at bosses?
in basic handling through 2nd job? 3rd? 4th?
Hermits are costly, but how popular are gunslingers?
in desirability at bosses/PQ?

in damage at various levels? hermits outdmg slingers till 4th job (if someone wants to confirm this)
in Survivability at bosses? about the same, pot whores
in basic handling through 2nd job? 3rd? 4th? I believe your asking about training speed here and hermits win out training speed wise
Hermits are costly, but how popular are gunslingers? just cause theres not many people in broa scrolling guns the prices are pretty steep for good scrolled stuff but not as bad as a hermit's (bullets are by far much cheaper)
in desirability at bosses/PQ? 4th job everyone wants them for their most dps with ship/cannon, pq wise they're about middle of the pack in desirability though i think people will want them more in CWKpq than any other pq

my opinions/what I've heard in bold

When do Hermits win out? From 10+ or after level x?
When Hermits train, it's just SP, booster, haste, L7. Do 3rd job Gunslingers train a similar way with Burst Fire, or do they take advantage of their summons?

I wasn't expecting to see a thread like this on SP >_>

Damage
1st job: Claw Rogue > Gun Pirate
2nd job: Assassin > Gunslinger
3rd job: Outlaw > Hermit (without SE), Hermit with SE > Outlaw
4th job: pretty balanced and depends on a variety of factors involving what is being fought

Survivability: Slingers have more HP than sins at all levels, but our avoid is crap. As long as you can pot yourself, slingers have better survivability, I guess, but it really depends more on your HP equips/AP in HP.

Handling: Sins are pretty much the same class from 1st job to 4th, they just move faster and do more damage. They're extremely easy to control, and any moron who can press two keys can play one.

Ranged classes are fairly easy to control in general though, and Gunslingers are not an exception to this rule. The only difficult part about playing a slinger is that you have to get used to the timing on your various skills. You also have to be a little more careful in your positioning because your skills have varying ranges. I don't yet have Battleship, but from what I hear that's very easy to manage as well.

I dunno why people always ask about desirability at bosses. You have to realize that it's easier to get into a Zakum run as a Beginner with good connections than a level 140 NL that doesn't know anyone. I'll help my friends get through 30-35 in CPQ with my tricked out level 50 Fighter, regardless of what class they are or whether they can do any damage. In any case, both classes are high DPS and shouldn't have any trouble getting into boss runs.

It's not just spam triple fire for 3rd job.
Timing a Lv20+ gaviota in between your triple fires every so often helps rack up damage and if you're at a stand and snipe type place like newties, octopus is amazing.

Cooling effect is a must for enemy incapacitation, you take less to no damage with it.

and booster is our only buff lol
