Control, Shift, Page up+down, end... all very nice keys. Great for seeing how many pots you have, skills with cooldowns, etc. How nice would it be to be able to pick which 8(+?) keys you have as quick slot keys?
After getting my laptop at the start of the school year, I only have an easy time getting to 3 of the 6 keys that aren't shift or control. I don't mind stretching for something I only use every 5 or 10 minutes (smokescreen, warrior elixirs, etc) but with my outlaw, I'd love to leave things with brief cooldowns like gaviota and octo (5-10 second cooldown) on readily accessible keys, but still have a visual on how ever many seconds until I can use it again.

I've always wanted something like this. I never put anything on those quick slot keys, only because of the fact that I like to keep one hand on the arrow keys at all times, and the other on my skills. The Quick Slot would help for those who like to put their hands elsewhere on the keyboard.
Edit: Lol, Hoy Keys. XD

Not only that, but I wish they'd unlock all the keys (direction arrows and screenshot, that is).
I use quickslot to keep pots on since I don't have any cooldown skills, and it would be nice to be able to change which keys are 'hot'.

old jMS habit: i play with a joystick... much easier especially with those 12-buttons one, and occasionally one or two keyboard keys for the +5mn pots for example

My laptop has all the quick slot keys except Shift and Control on the top left, very small in size, and for some, I have to press Alt or Function at the same time. So I either have to take my hands off the arrow keys AND my eyes off the screen to use less common pots, or I can't see how many pots I have left.
I've already almost died at bosses because of running out of Powers, which I put on Space. =/ And I'd really like a spot for All-Cures.

This seems like a very complex idea to implement. I'm not sure why people would say no however...
Nevertheless, something else I would like to be able to see when my cooldown skills are ready instead of trying to hit a button and being told "You may not use this skill yet." My pots occupy my quickslots since I don't like running out of pots and not knowing.

You could just remap your keyboard.

Beat me to it.
There's plenty of free, easy to use, LEGIT! programs that can remap a keyboard input so when you press 'D' your computer thinks you are pressings 'Page Down'.
These do not directly violate the MS ULA because they are simple remaps, they do not combine keys, press multiple keys, or repeat key strokes. You also are not gaining an edge over other players because your End key may not be so conveniently placed.
MS recognizes a few of the more advanced remap programs as hacks (AutoHotKey rings a bell), but there's other, more lightweight programs that can do it.
Another reason why it's legal is keyboard preferences. MS cannot penalize you for using a non-QWERTY style keyboard (such as a Dvorak). Windows has built in settings to remap your keys to fit other keyboards if necessary, thus having another program do the same thing should be legit as well.

Yup. I already remapped my menu key to delete and my left window key to insert (my old keyboard had ins, del, and alt on the left bottom side next to the space bar so i'm used to it). You'd be amazed how two keys can change up a brawlers skill layout so much.

To keep track of a skill's cooldown time, you could just put the actual skill on your quick slot, then make a macro of it and put that wherever you want it to be.

Unless you're unwilling to sacrifice a quickslot for said skill. HH is negligible in importance. I use my quickslots for potions. I tend to carry a lot of different kinds due to bossing habits.

Macros are annoying because if you accidently press the key twice, or hold it down too long, it will autofire at least once more after completing your first attack.

Doesn't seem to work that way for me.
When I'm chatting, it uses the Windows keymapping.
When I'm playing, it uses the physical locations of the keys, so that the key setup screen looks exactly the same as where I push buttons to get results.
I guess if the software was working on a more basic level it would be ok. But just changing the key mapping does nothing for me.
Or if your keyboard was actually laid out in Dvorak style and sent the electrical signals like that, it would probably be sending the right signals so that MS didn't think you were pressing "ASDF" on the homerow keys.

I use a laptop as well. What i do is i get one of those flexi or wireless keyboards (oh wait, any will do, actually =p) and attach it to my laptop. Booyah! Problem fixed. Ur laptop keyboard one, that is.
Well, my idea is to have the skills that are currently in cooldown in its own personal UI - like that of the quest log, party HP bar, etc. It would be quite useful. (Though i dont have any cooldown keys for now)

I'm quite surprised that MS takes a root scan code rather then Window's native one. Maybe Windows just doesn't have a good keymapper, I'm using a re-keymapper (?) to shift a few keys around, but I'm not sure when exactly it intercepts the key presses.
Hmm, that could make keymapping a tad more illegal then I thought? Still, I doubt it could be caught. JoyToKey is still workable, and that's a thousand times worse then a simple key map.
But yea, if you physically switch the wires MS will definitely recognize it properly. However that would be unconventional, and probably illegal =P

What would be fantastic, is to be able to put any item in those, even if you can't use them with hotkeys... Just to see how many are left. Put a steely set, and you can see how many you have left! Perfect for planning as a hermit.

Best idea ever. I want nexon to make this happen now. As well as basically allowing more keyboard freedom in general. >_>

Yes, I agree. I used to base my keyset around hotkeys, and now I don't do that anymore, I can't imagine how I kept using Fire Arrow on home, and tele on end. x.x
