What will be unavailable:

• All MapleStory game servers.
  
• Website login and the billing system will be unavailable from 5 AM - 10 AM Pacific.
  

Changes and Updates:

• MapleStory will be updated to v153.

What kind of update might be? Maybe Night walker and BZ reorganizations?? Or Hayato and Kanna Skill revamp? Events aren't over...
or maybe... the Spinoff is here?

This'll most likely be it, or a bugfix or two.

If it was actual content, they'd hype it with highlights at least a week in advance.

EDIT: They're probably also doing something with this:

"We understand how impactful this issue is for those affected. We are working with the development team to identify everyone who was affected and to come up with a plan for correcting the Tier Reduction where possible and compensation for those players. We will provide this compensation as early as possible next week."

Maybe they will make Bounty event a little easier?

It's a game update because they are pushing the version to 153. The amount of content is irrelevant. If they were going from 152.2 to 152.3, they would call it a minor patch.

Nexon's terminology has been very precise for a good few years now.

Installer:
The v.153 full client installer is available for download. If you experience issues while using the regular downloader, please click to download the four files listed below. You must save these files to the same folder. Then simply run the MapleStorySetupV153.exe file to install MapleStory normally.

Manual Patcher:
The v.153 manual patcher is available for players who currently have v.152 installed.

1. Download the manual patch by clicking this link: ManualPatcherv153.exe
   
2. Double-click on the patcher.
   
3. Select the folder where the game is installed. For most players, this folder is C:NexonMapleStory
   

If you see this message: "maplestory.exe not found," MapleStory must be located in a different folder. Please select the correct folder.

Equipment that received a Potential rank downgrade from the Bounty Hunter event's Master Craftsman's Cubes will be reverted to its rank from before the downgrade.
Characters on which the downgrade bug occurred will be given back the cubes they used on the downgraded equipment after the downgrade.
Characters on which the downgrade bug occurred will receive the following item through the gift box notifier as a special present: Epic Potential Scroll 100%, Unique Potential Scroll 80% (x2), Red Cube (x5).

That compensation though.
I kinda wish the 2 I used HAD lowered my potential >_>
