Pic of the day. Ike, the swordsman of magnificent strength, joins the battle!! Strike your foes down with his powerful smash attacks.

For this game, Ike's design is based on the hero that appears in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. His sword deals heavy damage in Smash Bros., so this design suits him very well! Rest assured, he can use Aether as well.

Why? I like him -- he was my secondary main for Brawl, but I just assumed he would get cut for a different Fire Emblem rep, because that's what happened to Roy. But I'm glad to see him return.

Yeah, I fully expected the Smash Bros. rep (besides Marth) to be a female this time. Maybe Fire Emblem will get 3 reps.

Told you guys he wouldn't get cut. Character "relevance" has no bearing on anything. He was a unique character, and it seems like Sakurai is avoiding character cuts as much as possible this time around. Doesn't mean Chrom can't join the crew, either.

As tempted as I am to just post like 5 lines of "WE LIKE IKE" I'm going to totally be mature and refrain from doing that. I'm glad he's back though, I like the heavier hitting characters even if they are slow. If he got cut it would leave me with like...Bowser, Ganondorf and DK. None of which I'm interested in. I didn't really see the point of Chrom getting in when we have Marth, since they both fight with rapiers so their movesets wouldn't be much different.

What? Do we really need another blue haired quick attack based sword fighter? How is Chrom using a Falcion different from say...Link? And if he uses a rapier then he would be very similar to Marth. Where as with Ike there's no one else who uses a super heavy weapon to fight. I don't dislike Chrom as a character, but he fighting style didn't seem anything special.

well, from a basic standpoint, we've had link and young link and now toon link with the same weapon and they've all been in. And those 3 starfox guys..

i just need an excuse to see chrom in glorious hd ok.

Technically, Ivysaur and Squirle, because Charizard isn't gone. Maybe. I don't think there's any concrete evidence that they are gone, just that Charizard is by himself and there's no character-switching characters anymore. It supports that Ivysaur and Squirtle are gone but does not confirm it (Unless Sakurai said something different, which I may have missed).

There's also a few I don't think have been confirmed yet. Falco? Wolf? Meta Knight? Some are bound to be secret characters though, like Jigglypuff, and so we won't see any info about them at all most likely.

Just keep in mind guys that I believe Jigglypuff was NEVER confirmed before brawl even came out, so Sakurai may pull the same sort of shenanigans this time around as well. There's just no way of knowing for sure what the full roster is going to be until the game is actually out.
