Do you even know where people trained in beta?
Also how old were you back in 2005? I caught the tail end of beta but everything you stated doesn't even fit the beta time frame, like at all.

You're so bias it's funny lol. I mean I guess that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but you can't give a valid argument unless you've played the game how it was meant to be played back then.
You're saying you've always played the game this way, and this way only. I've played the game that way and many other ways, and the other ways are so much better. Sure I loved having damage, but it came to a point where I eventually quit because it was old and monotonous.
This is how I view the game.
MapleStory is a tall building with a hundred floors. At the beginning there was no elevator. You walked up the stairs and on each floor there were cool and interesting things to look at and do. People were spread out among the floors. At the top floor, you receive a gold bracelet for your achievement.
Over time, the building manager decided it would be a nice feature to add an elevator in that takes you directly from the bottom floor to the 95th floor, but it costs money. So obviously most people jump at that and go straight up to the top floors, skipping everything else interesting so that they can be with the others at the tip top, for ego reasons. The manager realizes he's making lots of money, so he adds more prizes at the top for people.
All the other floors start to empty out and fewer and fewer people continue to enjoy the building so they leave. As for the top, where people who spent money hang out, it starts to get crowded and hard to breathe. Everyone at the top starts to leave, making room for new people who visit the building to buy their way straight up to the top and repeat the cycle. Why take the slow route and you can just buy your way there to get your shiny prizes?
Nexon has made it too easy to jump to the top, leaving no purpose for anyone to play the game below the top.

And this proves to be so superficial that people are now obsessing over changing the appearance of the numbers, not just the numbers themselves.
It's just an observation on how really silly of how meta it got. Power hungriness and obsession with damage numbers is the same damn thing.
The idea of damage skins themselves is superficial, whether someone does 8 digits of damage or 3, damage skins are about customisation, and that's all they are.
Basically what you are saying is that it's like bedazzling your E-peen, and using it an excuse to once again lament about how the game has changed.
Would you say the same thing about chairs being an obsession with social interaction?

I can see where he's coming from though, it is strictly cosmetic, but to get the full effect you naturally need a bigger area to span it, which would mean bigger numbers. Although I do agree it's not anymore than that you put it, 'bedazzled', rather than encouraging for more cubes.

Lol.
I was able to be part of a successful weekly zakum group on a god damn paladin way back when they were probably the worst class in the game. The i/l or sin stuff did occasionally happen, but no-one was/is judging the games worth just by the assholes.

i was a warrior that managed to get invited to a good hundred of KPQ's and LPQ's.
there were damage whores, but the amount of the population that was a damage whore back then is nothing compared to now, people actually explored the darn maps, chatted, did things other than spending all their money in cubes.
when was the last time you chatted to someone in the game that you didn't know for no other reason than just chatting? and if you did, did they even bother talking back? finding this nowadays is almost impossible, and since most people can pretty much solo the darn game there's also no reason for it. most of the people in my BL i got to know several years ago, barely any are recent, and those who are i was introduced by said old friends.
-and i go out of my way just to try and chat with people.

and why does that have to be part of my game? i don't come on maplestory to plain socialize or chit chat. that's what i go out for, or you know, play something that isn't a platforming, fighting, role-playing game first. that's second life. if i wanted a second life, i would play second life or the sims and chat it up. your plans for maple aren't mine and just because they're becoming the minority doesn't mean anything is wrong. just because you want to come on here to make friends or just to chit chat doesn't mean anyone else has to. there are tools in-game when you feel like doing that, if nobody else is doing it then guess what? nobody wants to. so either find more people like you here or find them somewhere else. this isn't my social life and i don't want it to be nor was it made as a replacement for one so why do i care if people don't chit-chat with me? maple is free in that you can log on it and do what you feel like so long as you don't break the rules, me not wanting to shoot the pomegranate with you is not breaking the rules, me wanting to deal more damage is not breaking the rules. you guys are complaining about the community when they're not being deliberately toxic, they're just not doing what you want them to. cheating and such sure, that's ruining people's fun, them wanting to stack damage, why is that any of your business? are you saying i should talk to everyone i meet on every game even if i just want to get on it to fight some pomegranate? makes no sense. not all of us utilize maple, games, or even the internet as our sole means of socializing. if you do, cool beans, but you have to understand that not every game or community is gonna be exactly what you want. this is one of those cases. the game has changed in a way you don't like, do you stand and gripe about it or move on(not in your case, i know you've mostly moved on bryan).

guess what the thread is about?
people who played maple for things other than damage BECOMING THE MINORITY.
the game has gone from one that allowed and promoted different ways of playing, social, customizable, damaging, etcetera, to one centric on damage, that's what this thread is about, that's what khainiwest said at the very beginning of his very first post, and that's what you keep missing.
i don't care if you see this game as "BIG NUMBERS: THE GAME", good for you, enjoy that, no problem indeed like you said. but in doing that everything else the game had has been slowly dying, the things I cared about. if tomorrow this game turns into "SECOND LIFE: SPRITE VERSION" i certainly hope you don't complain that the game lost the focus that you liked then.
nowhere did i say it was the sole mean of socializing, but it's a different kind of socializing and i enjoy that, maple has been killing that, for the third time. so OP here is complaining that the game has changed his initial focus.
PD: i'm not bryan.

and you keep missing the point that that was a niche and if you don't like it then leave. the developers create platforming, bossing content not chat content. so like i said originally, god forbid someone play the game and are about it while doing it. pineapple them for wanting to play the content the developers are creating and completing it right? also you had a drklilith banner so i thought you were him.
the thing is you guys are criticizing people for playing the game and the content how they want. what gives you the right to do that? the whole thread is ridiculous and all parasite does is complain about this(and a lot of southperry as a whole, even the ones who are more addicted to damage than almost any other players). i mean it's common sense if you don't like something don't keep doing it. all i see here is a lot of craziness and whining. you guys are comparative to someone saying this after losing in chess "WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO WIN SO HARD, WE SHOULD JUST BE TALKING AND HAVING FUN LIKE FIVE YEARS AGO". games and communities don't stagnate, if you don't like maple how it is now GO TO SOMETHING ELSE. what does whining constantly about it with no base do? makes you feel better for 5 minutes?

I think that's enough of going around in circles.
