yes, but that can cause severe inconsistencies and problems with other parts of the database. An overall rollback is the best option.

It's probably possible, but you can't really trust Nexon not to break things if they attempt to do that.

So if there is a rollback, does that mean RLH will be extended?
Because if it doenst I just wanted 45k in RLH tickets that I bought last week [I just used them all on saturday and sunday getting totems on 3 chars}..
And I'm saying this right now I will not do all those RLH runs in one day...

I'm just trying to say the exploit hasn't been public that long.. If they don't rollback they are going to have to solve the issue by deleting the items thus fucking someone over in another way. I'm sure the majority of the population would rather lose a few hours over being hellbanned or falsely banned for a few weeks. Unless they don't plan on punishing the abusers then is that really going to be better off?
you tell me.

It would be extremely risky without knowing exactly how the tables are related to each other.
Consider your suggestion of rolling everything back but exp.
What do you do with levels?
What do you do with job advances? Quests related to job advance? Equips given on level-up or job advance? What about HP and MP gained automatically on level-up? What about AP and SP? How about rep given to the senior? Guild Contribution? All 4 One rewards?
What about 2x buffs or sengoku tickets used up during leveling, do people get them back for free?
Everything is tied together, either at the database level (data pointing at other data) or at the game level (things we know should happen as consequence of each other).

I didn't go near the FM all weekend, so I'd prefer they do the hellbans until they sort out the duped items.

I did, but didn't buy anything. I guess I should be hellbanned.
This weekend I also happened to fuse a couple of Nebulites and got a 3% All Stat neb. I guess I should be outright banned.
I'd rather get rollbacked. Honestly (and as pointed out earlier), unless Nexon is willing to sift through what happened this weekend - and they're not - a rollback is the only option.

Well, with a hack like this, they're gonna piss off players either way... at least a hellban doesn't delete any legit progress.

Expanding on a point made during this thread and a post by someone in the official Maple Story forums, it makes sense that this exploit has been around for a while, because, as someone else pointed out, A nebulites have been dropping in price rather drastically over the past few months. I was ascribing this drop in price to better chances of getting nebulites in Gachapon and the sale in fusion tickets and some other factors, but I now tend to think that people have been duping A nebulites (among other items) and have been selling them on the sly for a few months at the least.

Yea, I got to admit they hit it pretty well. Blending in with all those nebulites from the Philoshper book gach was probably a great way to make dupe items look legit.

RED boxes also gave a bunch of A nebs during the last few weeks.

Absolutely correct. Those boxes also gave out AEE no booms, but I saw someone use a super megaphone a few days back, before RED, claiming that he was selling AEE no booms for 600 mil in Scania. That makes me worry a little.

The problem I see is that without rollback, you sort of reinforcing in your player base the idea that if you see a scroll exploit go ahead and take advantage of it and just make sure you use those scrolls right away, unless they have a way of tracking what scroll was used one which weapon. lots of those duped No Boom AEE have already been used and the other scrolls that were Gen'd/Duped. If there is a way to delete the armor and weapons these items were used on then yeah a Hellban till the items can be deleted would be fine.

That would mean 70% of Scania would have no gear left.

The big problem is there is no specific way to just "Detect duped items"
Granted they could have specific values generated with them, but what about duped scrolls on non duped items?
It would take longer to track down which items were affected, since they are sometimes switched between several accounts.
It is often easier for them to just roll back to the last state. The problem is EVERYTHING that implies.
It all depends on how long they plan on being down for. We should be hoping its a while. That most likely means they won't roll back.

This X 1000
This is pretty much a lose/lose situation, theres nothing nexon can do that won't anger SOMEONE; I'd personally prefer if we don't have a rollback, since not only does it screw over everyones progress with leveling, events, etc (especially after we just had two 2x events in a row)
But what about people who cubed and had good results? Rollbacks are a pretty devastating thing when it comes to legit progress.
On the other hand if you don't do a rollback, and just remove the duped items, people lose money, items they may have bought (though in SOME cases this is their own fault for buying things that are obviously duped) etc

Plus, as moore4me already mentioned, it leaves a lasting impression to the playerbase basically telling them to go ahead and take advantage of these exploits and use the scrolls on gear since the gear will, more often than not, not be deleted.
People who have been around long enough know that does tend to be the case most of time.

I don't think second chance does anything... My falsely banned accounts were still banned after they announced it. Too lazy to send them tickets since they're too old accounts now.
Also, hackers will always hack regardless if their old accounts were released or not. Banning a hacker's account isn't going to stop them from hacking because people, you me and everyone else, can always make new accounts.
And for hackers, it's not hard to get back to their feet... unlike legit people, those that don't take advantages of anything, are the only ones that get hurt. And Nexon doesn't give 2 pomegranates about legits. (Take a look at their customer's support.)

Why nexon just don't ban all accounts that are registered to an ip in that day or the previous 24hrs. That would probably ban some mains from hackers and noob hackers. If you hack with one account, you kinda deserve to get all of them banned...
