"Black Friday Big Spender Event"

I'm the biggest hypocrite in town. Here all week.

ITT: Cutthroat city / opinions passed as facts.

I don't know why people are getting upset over this, or are shoving stuff down others' throats.

Justin Wrote:For pineapple's sake, no one is forcing you to buy these items at these "heightened prices". They are a BONUS for spending NX. Nothing pineappleing more. You can try to argue that they are extorting money, but you are wrong because
1. Again, Nexon cannot force you to buy into this
2. ALL of these items in the shop eventually come back at the regular prices
3. NEXON ISN'T FORCING YOU TO BUY INTO THIS

Jesus christ, can you guys knock this stupid crap off about "baiting" players or them being scumbags? Yeah, the guardians and shields specifically are only available through this method AT THE MOMENT, but you are ALL completely and perfectly aware of the black friday coin shop that supplies the shields coming on the 13th. You are all aware that the guardians MUST eventually be re-released in the CS at their normal price. What's the damn rush? We've all been begging and pleading for the scrolls, but when it boils down to it, you are not going to die without these scrolls and/or items. God forbid a company try to give its customers extra incentive to buy their products.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. That simple.

What is coercion?
What are exploitative business practices?

The issue I take here is that this "event" is targeted solely on the whales. Some people are already throwing most of their paycheck into the cash shop, and this event is a reward for this self-destructive behavior, and maybe a reason to throw even more money in.

Hardly exploitative.
It's the same as any company's loyalty program, from airline miles to collecting stamps on an ice-cream parlor's membership card.
Just should be clear that it's not "free" and it's not a "bonus for the casual NX buyer". It's a bonus for the big spenders, and is honestly named that.

To be honest, isn't the big spenders who get those items anyway? If they really wanted to "eventify" them they should have made them accessible to everyone lmao

The only problem I have with the comparison to a "loyalty" scheme, is that those are usually long-term, when you save up a little bit at a time. This event isn't like that, it's a short-term "spend lots to get the items we are baiting you with" scheme.

Indeed. If anyone miss Nexons motives in this, they are retarded.

I have a decent amount of points and I'm fairly certain that within the past two months, I've spent around $30 in nx.

That's casual nx spending to me.

I really don't understand why people are bitching about it so much, I think it's nice. Surely not an incentive for me to buy more nx (call it self control and budgeting, maybe?)

So what if I can't get all of the items? One or two for free is fine by me.

Why does it feel like everything on Southperry needs to erupt into a debate.

Probably because A) This is a forum, and B) Nexon is not exactly a paragon of good business practise.

What exactly is good business practice? Serious question.

I don't know, having certain standards, respecting the customers, not trying to milk every last cent out of already loyal players?

The potential system, with the extremely expensive cubes, with all its pure crap lines and the absolute must to buy into it to enjoy the full game content seems like a good example on bad practise.

Girasol had the right ideas when she made sure to clean out alot of crap from the Gash and Wheel of Marvel. They got rid of her pretty dang quickly after that, and have made no effort to keep that approach.

The real enigma

YennoX Wrote:What exactly is good business practice? Serious question.

Well, on halloween when I ordered pizza for my party (4 large or whatever), it was 2 hours late because they were overwhelmed. Of course they didn't TELL me this, but I overheard over the phone that they forgot my order. I sent them an email, the MANAGER gave me a call back two days later to apologize and would repeat my order at ANY time with everything being for FREE.

Communication and taking responsibility for mistakes are probably the biggest and most basic methods/requirements for a business to have a positive view by the public.

I think there's quite a difference between clever business strategy and being a socially responsible company. Telling Nexon that it should offer more free things to players/make items more attainable is like telling a casino that it should improve the odds for gamblers because it's 'better business practice'. If demand for cubes, wards, marvel machine and whatnot is relatively inelastic from its major income sources, why should Nexon even considering making any changes to its business model?

Communication and taking responsibility has compliance costs associated with them, direct or indirect. If making users happy would have an impact on revenue, then by all means it would be a justified expense. But the way I see it, the main revenue source for Nexon have no problems with their current business practice -- and even if they do, they have gone past the point of addiction and would still spend money on the game regardless.

They absolutely do. The population alone has deteriated to a fraction of what a single event day was 4 years ago. You have a Korean company running an American business, who's lost 3 community managers in the last 3 months. In fact, they are so out of touch with us, they literally took, word by word, the southperry users opinion on that stupid maplestory survey thing we had/having.

Common sense would tell me that a business wants more revenue, not to lose money firing people. There are very minor changes that nexon can do to triple their profits, what business would deny that? A dumb one.

Edit:

And would you like to specify what costs would be associated with unbanning an account, thus keeping the user happy and spending? The correct answer is not unban f`ucking everyone. This imaginary cost that you're making up does not apply to Nexon since all of their products are completely intangible, and most of them just needs someone with a "admin" tag to do a certain change on an account.

Man, your ass is so far up nexon's ass that it's no wonder you're totally oblivious. A company like this cannot thrive on the top 5% who are addicts who tolerate this nonsense. It's nonsensical that you have to spend thousands of dollars to defeat a boss, in fact release bosses that are undefeatable, mathmatically, in fact, perma bannable if you get to close, just to bait people to spend more. Considering their profits have had a consistant drop, along with the population, means this practice has no longetivity potential. At all.

So why should they? So that there isn't a few thousand people playing a day to the point where they spend so much, the gaping obvious reality of lack of content sacrificed for f`ucking different methods to assure a controlled variable on some unbalanced stat which results them quitting to repeat the cycle.

Your entire perspective is unresearched and assumed to be working well since they are doing it, as you assume this company is competent. Surfuckingprise.

Good business practise is not an opposite to clever business strategy. Aiming at player addiction like Nexon are doing, and adding so many undesirable outcomes instead of making the players feel good about their investment is not only bad strategy in the long run, it is also highly unethical.
Even when you get that high end outcome, be it 21% main stat or the latest end game weapon, you will generally feel disguisted after the hype goes down; if you dare to really look at how much it cost you.
And the many, many players that spend alot without results? Yea, no wonder people shun Maple these days.

Oh, and don't confuse my post with some kind of rant because I want to be handed stuff on a silver plattern. I just felt that for a brief moment, when Girasol was in power, that Nexon might become something you could stand behind. They suddenly went transparent, and seemed to take the customers opinions into consideration. We all know how that ended up.

And now we have yet another event where their aim is clear, but obviously not as clear as I though since so many miss it. The way they have opperated the Cash Shop this last year should provide enough hints...
