Monster Life Breeding and Play Reference (WIP)
You could just make a new g-mail just for monster life updates, but I'm not going to sit here and try to coerce you into doing something you don't want to do.

if I remember correctly, making a gmail account is kind of a complicated and annoying process.

It takes less time than filling out the input form for the Monster Life directory...

Oh did they quit the stupid phone thing?

The phone part is not necessary, it is there for added security.

it appears to be gone for at least like the first few you make, but there probably there is like a limit for each IP per day. so if you just make like no more than 1 or 2 a day you'll be fine

it used to be you had to give a phone for every account you made. but that probably cost them too much money buying all those text messages Stunned

Gah, another stupid Timer. x.x
At least keeping up Pipsqueak Arkarium won't be that much of a problem, I suppose.

I don't suppose there's a known success rate on combining monsters for special-types is there?
I'm not complaining, but thought the levels were a bit low, but I still took a chance anyway.
Combined my level 4 Shinsoo and someone's level 16 Oberon to get this:

Pushed a minor change to the site, not sure how quickly it's going to propagate - when logged in, each monster type page should have another row of links at the bottom like Update: Current Type Regular monster Special monster to make it easier to get to those pages (the 'current type' one will redirect back to the type page after you submit something; other two won't since you presumably want to get somewhere else).

Have been busy the last couple days, but tomorrow I should have time to add some new features I've been thinking about. Mainly a page option to not worry about the cutoff date (so instead of just displaying ones that haven't expired yet, you'd get all farm names that have ever had the type - good for people who want as many Soldiers to combine with as they can get, and don't mind wading through some expired farms). It'll still be grabbing results based on expiry date (since that's what the storage is set up for) so on more popular types that have >50 farms it'll just return the more recent ones.

for the data entry - perhaps it would be useful to be able to see a list of what we previously updated. like in the old one. a minor thing though, but then I can remember what I have done and have not.

for people wanting to do the finding released monsters. I have found that - they can appear in NLC - which was unexpected. Also they can appear in the hair/face salons.
it also appears that it can appear in any server, not just your own which i previously thought.

Hmm. It would be easier to put a 'time of update' column on the type pages; would that accomplish the same thing?

Relatedly do you guys prefer any date formats? I hadn't thought about it before but it's actually pretty trivial for me to show them a different way (eg. "Oct. 12" "2013-10-12" "today")
Personally I prefer the "Oct. 12" style to ISO dates for display purposes (maybe with 'today' as a special case in the updates column), and because expiries are <1 month the year's not that useful.

I can also make the source more css-friendly if anyone wants to make a stylesheet for it. I'm not a web designer >_>

Stereo; I like the idea of being able to see expired farms too, I missed that feature. I don't care what the date format is as long as I know what it is and it's easy to enter. If we display Oct-12-2013 can we still enter 10-12-13 or something and it auto formats?

Not going to change the input one - that is actually browser specific, and in an ideal world shows up as whatever your locale's time preference is. I just mean in the farm listing pages, where I can format it however I want.

Anyway, pushed an update to show expired farms: You can now click a link at the bottom of the table to add another month worth of results (default is to show things expiring today - clicking once will get you things that expired up to 30 days ago). It still sorts by rank.

It functions how you would expect, if you edit the address - you can just change 'from' to 2010-01-01 or something to see every historical farm. (really 2013-06-01 or so would do it)

There's still a limit of ~70 farms on the page, it will get the ones with most recent expiries.

Not a big difference but I just changed it so it'll show the farthest-future expiries first (this only applies to Mushrooms right now as far as I know)

The current limit is 70 farms of a given type being shown at once, which was chosen arbitrarily by a global cap on queries (there are ~68 types of Special precursors so the query to list those needs that many results)

I'm worried about just increasing it because currently I use about 50-80% of the free quota (depending on the day). Not that it would cost an unreasonable amount (the current usage amounts to <15 cents a month if they billed for it), I just don't want to have to deal with that.

Looking into a more quota-friendly way of handling the updates using AJAX, because those update buttons (link to update?farm=etc.) cause a couple refreshes of the page each time. (ps. for the person who was looking at every monkey farm - you can just open the historical one in one tab and the update page in another and not have to navigate back to it repeatedly)

On a more personal note, finally got a Prime Minister and the Fungal Defender award. Don't expect my farm to continue having a bunch of Amore Spores; I'll be throttling down the Mushroom production a lot.

If I release His Eminence does the Rate Manipulator achievement still count? (10 SS monsters)

What does it give? Is it the box that gives S ranks? Or is it A~SS?

To your question, no. You need to have 10 SS monsters on your farm at the same time.

Also, for data purposes and to those trying to find their own monsters, they can also appear in Time Temple (Road of Regrets 4), Magatia Lab (Lab Area C-3), and inside the Gold Temple (Middle right room). RayGun had also previously mentioned them appearing in NLC and hair/face salons.

time of update on the type will probs be ok.

as for date format, the numerical style is easier for entry. though having oct in the display etc instead of a number for the month may be clearer? In the past, I used to find the month-date format that americans use a bit confusing, people from other countries may also be confused by it. on the other hand its pretty obvious what the month is anyway, since the monsters only last for one month.

Woops, when I said NLC, I meant the monster areas in Masteria. I suppose that means that all monster areas potentially can spawn them, and unlike the events there is no exclusion for Global, SEA content areas. I haven't yet seen any in the cities (main town maps), though that may be because people have killed them all.

Oddities gonna odd, I guess...

A+ (whipped cream wight) & S (snow giant) produced a B+ rank (red totem monster), usually I wouldn't expect to get that bad a result ever. Makes me wonder if it's actually based on a list of possible outcomes, not the ranks. Have had the Eye of Time and Purple Reagent Rock (also B+ rank) show up.
