Oh, I was more thinking of the horrendous lag people are going on about

All I'm doing in game is looting town boxes, which takes forever due to the crazy lag.

To explain what likely occurred today. There are hundreds of commands inside the MapleStory client that are normally only known by Nexon staff. While most of these commands can not function without an "admin flag" (meaning the command handler internally checks if you're an admin, if not nothing happens), there are still dozens of commands that can be used by any player which allow for administrative controls, including setting server-sided functions to players. The player in this case likely knows how to access these commands which is easily done if you know how, and found how to parse it correctly. He's basically connected the character information window to a function that makes any "infected" player run a function to change the player's character class to 4th job Phantom.

There are many other reasons for this happening, although because of the likely high level hacking that was needed to accomplish this, it worries me that if Nexon does not make a massive effort to effectively remove all un-commented commands or add more checks to existing commands, that more harmful actions can happen such as making clicking a character give someone a permanent ban.

Hopefully there will be another maintenance, if not I honestly forsee this getting really bad. Players will continue to infect each other until there is a major need for a rollback.

Yeah, that is horrible. The ironic part is that someone was trying to trick people into believing that the servers were rollbacked to April just now but at the rate this is going and the potential for more malicious changes to occur than a slightly annoying class change a rollback may be well inevitable along with a long maintenance to patch up all the potential exploits.

As again, I feel really sorry that this is happening because it's now too risky to do anything even if you don't click on players or obviously off NPCs.

What did nexon fix in 6 hours?;

A fix will be applied to address channel crashing.
The Golden Pig monster will no longer appear.
Players will now be sent to the last map they were in after completing the Maple Leaves Keep Falling On My Head event.

Thanks nexon for these wonderful fixes.
Only a few things left to fix;

-Item generators
-Crash hackers
-Botters
-Dupers
-Account hackers
-Fame hackers
-People who change your job
-Probably some other hacks that idk about.

I wonder if nexon could fix most things of this list if they just put ms down for like a week.

I'm fine with them taking their time and making sure the issue is fixed, but why bother putting the game up if they seemingly didn't fix the major problem?

Give it time. It is silly that the server check didn't fix this Phantom hack, but they obviously aren't just going to let that continue.

If I can't click npcs without fear of pomegranate happening to me I'm not logging on until everything is over. I spend 99% my day or doing things that require me to click npcs.

This shouldn't have effected NPCs. As long as you don't interact with any players you should be fine, although keep in mind the chance of a rollback at this point is high. Just play it safe if you want to go on.
