This would depend on one thing: Can I bring people with me when I use my power? I'd much rather slow down time overall though because I like taking my time to do things and hate feeling rushed. To be able to slow down time for a set amount of hours would be like being in the hyperbolic time chamber- to train for a "marathon", to experience things in the moment and not worry about that one thing you needed to do the next day would be bliss. Speeding up I feel would be too lonely of an existence for me. Yes I can speed up time, but if I can't bring my friends with me, then what would be the point in living that era? Yes you could have bazillions of dollars, but if a nuclear war happens, then that doesn't exactly exist anymore. The only benefit would be to be able to see things go by over a long time, but you'd never be able to get the experience you would having lived through that time. Also- if the human race decides to settle on some far out planet when giant meteor smashes into Earth, then you're generally screwed.

I'm not sure what is so difficult to understand, I even outlined it in my response. To be clear, my second post was aimed at dissuading people from choosing SLOW DOWN, it was not in support of speeding up even though that is my preference.
Why I did not choose time slowing: - 2013 - 20 years old. At an average rate of slowing time by half over 20 years.
- 2033 - 60 years old. The body would have aged 40 years while only 20 years would have elapsed. Got wise, reduced use of power; 20 more years slowing at an average rate of a quarter.
- 2053 - 85 years old. Presumably dead sometime soon.
Result, you witness 40 more years of history, but have aged so much that you are unable to see any more. A life wasted eating just a tiny slice of this thing called life.

Check yourself before you wreck yourself. Which, in this case, you already did, so I don't know where we go from here.
Seanny Wrote:One rule though: your metabolism and aging stays in normal speed regardless of if you're slowing time or speeding it up. (speed up time 3x for 1 hour, you age 1 hour. Slow down time to .5 or even .1x for 1 hour, still age 1 hour.)
2013: I am 20 years old. I slow down time 0.1x (10 hours for me = 1 hour for everyone else). I live in that speed for 10 years.
2014: I am 21 years old. I have lived for 10 years under 0.1x speed, but because my body ages in normal speed, I am only 21.

You metabolism is not changed for those 10 years, you have aged 10 years while real time has only progressed through 1 year. Everything outside of yourself slows down, you remain unchanged. 2014, you are 31 years old. The only way to reach your conclusion is if your body aged in slow speed, not your bolded, normal speed, which is, against the rule.

I see more potential in slowing it down.

id want neither, id want the power of gravity so i could make such heavy gravity balls that they warp space and time to any way i want.

Time slowing would really suck if you slowed down with it, so I am operating under the assumption that you don't.

Whoops sorry if my explanation wasn't clear enough guys!
But Chilly's example is what i was going for in my initial post. That no matter if time is being sped up or slowed down, your aging, perception (everything looks slower,or faster to you) and metabolism still proceeds at 1x speed regardless of which mode you'd be in.
As in if you're slowing time down to half speed: a half hour of real time, would be percieved as a hour, and your body would have experienced an hour of aging as well.
If you're able to move at normal speed in slowed down or even sped up time, your whole body, right down to cell division must be working the same way too.
But yeah in both choices you experience/percieve a full life time at normal speed: but Slowing down time = shorter 'real time' life. Speeding up time = longer 'real time' life.
So in theory... would you pick between a technically shorter life where you could possibly do everything right on the first try? Or a technically longer life where you get to fast forward through the tedious waiting life offers and possibly experience more events?
I apologize, i'm gonna edit the OP to make that more clear, though most people have voted already. Oops.

Thanks for clarifying that.
I'm still going with slow down time though.
First of all, you wouldn't have time slowed down constantly, you would use it sparingly, an hour or two here and there.
Secondly, your life expectancy would probably increase due to the fact that being able to slow down time will cause you to get less bodily harm. You probably would be spared from a sudden death.
Slowing down time would be safer and grant you a more fulfilling, easier life. also less stress, I'm guessing stress would play a large part in life expectancy too.
So even with those rules... speeding up time still is the weaker option in my opinion.

Slow down time. Imo, the events that requires "extra time" to get things done tends to be more important. Besides witnessing the future of the world, I don't see any other use to speeding up time. I mean what else can you do? Speed up weekends? No thanks.

Slow time down, provided it doesn't affect me. There are just way more practical applications to it, especially if I can approach/reach complete timefreeze.[/COLOR]

There is a poll though!
This idea wasn't as challenging as i imagined. I need to make people feel conflicted about their fictional choices!

1. Speed up time! x100!!
2. Grab the most important books every couple of thousand years
3. Wait for invention of time machine
4. Return to original time and open library
5. Charge a small fee for access to the "mature" section
6. Profit!!!
