Pythagoras Wrote:As of title. I don't how how you guys select your class and have faith in it. But for me, I'm always uncertain with my decision. Nexon's evil scheme of releasing OP classes and nerfing them 6 months later always affect me in many ways. For example, i may find phantom interesting today, but tomorrow i may feel that luminous is a better option for me and regret funding my phantom, and the cycles continues when a new OP job rolls out. In other words, bandwagon. I'm not sure if anyone is same with me, but i have to bandwagon every new jobs now and then because I always skeptical with my decision . Hence, i always kinda forced to level a certain job to 150-ish to find out if I'm interested with it. Well, i do not do any homework to calculate the damage output of any jobs and how much DPS they can spit out because i play a job simply based on its game play to see if its style suits me well. For example, some may love bossing classes and dream to deal the highest DPS on bosses, but i personally like mobbing classes more because i mob mostly and seldom go bossing. I always admire bleve for his loyalty in his F/P and wonder how he can firm until today with the release of new OP classes and such. I believe that other southperrians does too, and i really wonder how you guys find interest in your job.
Find one where you like the mechanics, look, and feel. It's really that simple. Nexon will continue to make new classes. As a result, if you're looking for a class to stick with, make sure you pay no attention at all to anything regarding damage. If you do, I guarantee you will regret it later. You must choose what you find fun. If you find doing tons of damage fun and that's it, then there's really no class you will be able to stick with, because the newest class will always be better than the rest.
For example, I originally played Paladin most because I loved the concept of an elemental warrior. Being able to choose your element and use it to your advantage seemed like a cool concept to me. Of course, at this point since everything that matters is immune to every element, it didn't really matter in the long run. That's half the reason I don't play my Paladin anymore. I play my Kanna mostly because I like the artwork, and I enjoy the interesting mechanics that come along with her abilities. I don't pay any heed to how much damage I do, because in the end it never matters. Unless you plan on spending a million and a half dollars on the game, you will never be the best. I don't see any point in caring about the DPS, because mine will never be sufficient regardless of class.

Geez, have I really had my I/L for over 6 years? Damn.
^ The first two lines basically explains why my main class is now a Phantom. Screw multiple classes and switching back and forth, get it all in one class today with great default looks to boot and your very own pimping airship that makes Mercedes rage!
...I swear I have less immature reasons for playing my Phantom.

I was organially in love with my wk. I like how no one would play and And I loved having to change my buffs depending on what mob I was fighting and selecting specific mobs to train on becuase of elemental weakness. I also loved that I found a group of like 3/4 Wk to train with so It was like I was alone. 4th job came and I was excited for spammable charge blow. And a 4th element to add to my arcenial. But as I played, revamps came, I got hacked (twice... techniquilly 3 but the 3rd time wasnt a major hit) and I began to notice that the paladin was becoming less of an elementally warrior that I loved and more of a holy warrior/defense character that were both half-assed in effort.
My three mains were paladin/mercedes/and f/p. For me I enjoy being able to explore new areas and fighting bosses. I love having variations in how I attack certain mobs which all 3 fulfill But I also look for survivability not too much and not too little. So I've ended up perma maining the f/p.

Just YouTube various classes and know your tastes. I'm not a mage, warriors, or archer person.
I started touching the thief class after seeing a Shadower bomb away an LHC map with ME and fell in love, but it wasn't a viable bosser so I started YouTubing the other thief classes. Tried DB because I really liked Phantom Blow, disliked it in the early stages, quit, tried NL, got that to 200, but got bored and went back to DB.
Another incentive is that I've invested so much funding and time into my DB that I wouldn't want to quit it (lots of perm NX, pet, Vampire questline)

I loved my dark knight and shadower for what they originally were. Now I dislike their playstyle and refuse to play until either is fixed.

I like the Corsair playstyle. It's a well-rounded class that isn't really overpowered like some of the newer classes. The only classes I've enjoyed playing more than my Sair are Mercedes and Luminous. The main reason I stick to my Corsair is because I already invested so much time and money into it. It has lots of useful permanent NX (Hyper Tele, pet equips) that I can't share with any of the new classes because of the dumb separate CS inventory. Plus, cubing makes it very expensive to fund multiple characters. It took over a year to get all my Sair's equips scrolled and cubed to my liking and I don't want to do that again for another character.

I do find that Maple has gone the path of more-alike classes -> easier to balance.
It's something you see other places, like the transition between Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 to 4th edition. Not to start an edition war, but 3.5 was horribly balanced and 4th edition is very well balanced. Why do people still play 3.5/Pathfinder? Because in balancing all the classes, they also made them feel the same. Mechanically, each class works differently and there's actually quite a bit of diversity, but to a lot of people they feel the same, which is often as important or more than mechanically being different. Which is why, even though 4th edition on paper is a better game than 3.5, it's not unreasonable for people to still prefer the previous.
That's one of the problems with Maple nowadays. Many people don't like that classes have sort of converged as they introduced new skills. I can say that I don't like training my Gunslinger as much anymore. I found it surprisingly fun to press two buttons to attack instead of one. Classes now are generally more balanced (At least older classes are among each other), but they also feel like they play more the same.

I have one of each Mage. Each of which I play once in a while, but my I/L I can always play for long periods of time without switching to a different one, or could anyway. I just really love playing Mages, especially my I/L. It's a matter of finding what you like most, but sticking to one character isn't for everyone. Some people get bored of playing one class for too long, and that's fine too.

Arans were unique for their time when they first released. I used to main a Priest before switching to the warrior branch class. Just being able to mob efficiently, and using pretty damn awesome skills encouraged me enough to get my Aran to the level he is now. This is partly why I enjoy using my Kaiser as a 2nd main (Dragons ). For its time, I actually liked the idea of Aran having a back story so it kept me engaged with maple's storyline too. I can't really stick with any other class without being discouraged by something such as having low HP/low avoid on a Bowmaster/Night Lord. That's just me though.

I always had a "pineapple what calculations and the community says, I'll play what I want" mindset. Which, when I think to it, is probably what attracted me to Fire/Poison back in the old days. This was the old old old OLD days. Poison training was non-existent and though we had power with our Fire Arrow, it being 1v1 meant an even MORE painful leveling experience then the already painful experience gain that the mobbing or mobile classes had.
The power was worth it though, and when 3rd job was released, the motivation to nuke my area with explosion it made my journey to 70 an insanely fun, although long road.
And really, that's what kept me interested in Maple outside of my friends. I didn't play classes for damage or because they were overpowered, I played them because they looked genuinely interesting to me and I could dig the playing style. When Evan was released, it was the same concept. The 1v1 potential was rather pitiful, in fact, lower than Archmages without any critical hit modifiers(Sharp Eyes, Thorns), but the playing style and utility was so awesome to me that I put my all in the class. To do this day I would have to say my fondest memories would be on that Evan. Not only was I having a blast playing with Flame Wheel and Earthquake, I was able to pull feats off that I couldn't do on other Magician characters. Such as helping my squad Horntail much more easily, or being able to stand up to the upcoming bigfoot police that was KSing Demethos, and winning. The mechanics in the class itself also made grinding satisfying. I had fun keeping my mana in the range required for Dragon Fury at all times to maximize damage output.

I love my class and my claw cost me more than I'd like to admit. It's also a reverse so I can't move it. So yeah NL forever =D

I find myself extremely similar to this guy. I like my Captain's playstyle, not OP but able to do a lot of stuff. The only other class that I play more outside of my Captain is my Mercedes for some reason. However, I invested a lot of time and money in my Captain that I can't just quit him (Perma Hyper tele, pet equips, pet skills, cubes). Though that wouldn't really matter if I dislike the playstyle of Captain, I'll still just quit right away.
The other reason is Captains are rare. Super rare since pre-Big Bang, some people just play a job for that reason. Right now, when people in my world says "Yeah, that captain, always hunting in Vampire Castle..." The other could just "Oh! Killmeplsok right?" as there is pretty much no other active captain who do that despite vampire castle being a hot hunting area now.

I enjoy high output melee classes, namely speaking my favorites thus far have been Demon slayer, Hero, Dual blade, and Kaiser. For their particularly unique skills (force for demon slayer, dual wielding for DS, Combo counter for hero, Transform gauge for kaiser)

Same with my Paladin. I loved the original idea behind the class, but now I detest the direction they went with the class by making it a "Tank" class with elements slapped on it.

Phantom and Angelic Buster have done it for me.
I'm only too aware about how AB is the bandwagon right now, but I don't mind too much. Buster has given me the most varied play style to date. All of her skills have utility in at least one aspect of my training, and the damage sure doesn't hurt (even though she got nerfed to hell and back already, she's still really strong). I've enjoyed aspects of the game that I wouldn't dare touch before (see: Dojo and Mystic Bosses).
Phantom is great. I love playing around with skills even though they don't do great damage. She's also my highest leveled character at the moment so there's that, but that's only a testament to how much I enjoy playing her.
I hope either of these classes are my first 200.

Overpowered classes are boring, because that's just what they are: overpowered. They require so little effort to be good. Take Kaiser for example. A funded Kaiser can solo literally any boss in the game right now with little to no effort (excluding Hard Magnus and CPB for obvious reasons). It just doesn't seem fun to me. If I wanted to do that I might as well just go play a private server.
I'm loyal to my F/P because it's not a class that you can just level to 200, throw together a set of gear that the above average player could afford, and instantly be prepared to go bossing.
People see me and instantly assume I'm weak because of the class I play, and being able to prove them wrong is why I keep playing.
Plus I enjoy the class, but that's a given, because if I didn't I would have moved on to a different class a long time ago.
Fun is subjective. I'm not going to tell you why I enjoy it because to someone else it could be extremely boring.

I like mages and Fire is my favorite element, so my main will always be a F/P (even though I don't use many fire skills these days).

When i was actually active, it was my imagination. All it took was a class, and a good idea for a NX look (and possibly headcanon cause I'm a dork) and i was inspired to level it or make it stronger.
Made a Magic card wielding I/L Archmage (then Phantom stole its thunder a while later >_> ... er no pun intended), a stoic, loner type of guy Corsair. A bunnygirl brawler and a innocent looking all pink wearing Shadower... who hides a murderous blade in her stuffed seal. and a few others.
How can you not want to make such a awesome group of chars as strong as possible?

I do admire this of Angelic Buster. I have keymapped every one of her skills, and still use very one of them, even pewpewpew ball, which is good, because I couldn't live without pewpewpew ball.
Using 1st job skills in 4th job gives you the sensation of a well-designed class. There are no disposable skills, like "errh in 3rd job u get BIG LAZER and then in 4th job u get BIGGER LAZER lolz". I'm looking at you, Mihile, but basically all classes suffer this.
Not Angelic Buster, she was designed to use all of your skills in different situations, which is awesome!
Luckily everyone will soon bandwagon into Xenon and will leave AB for people who like the fun.

I like picturing my character in it's own little story, and for me that works as reason enough to keep playing it. That and added with the whole concept of whatever the class uses as weapons and tools just makes it more fascinating. I'd like to say my Paladin is my main, but i'll play any class that I find interesting at the moment and enjoy it just as much.
