Same thing here, didn't really find it funny at all, not sure if playing the game is required to understand the funny part.

Then it's less funny and more stating the obvious. The things mentioned in Pokemon games have never changed, saying "It hasn't changed, that's insanity" isn't very funny.

I don't think nintendo are expecting pomegranate to change, it's still selling well as was said in the comic. So doesn't that go against what was already stated? That it'd be insanity to expect it to change.

Well it's changed over time, so variations of the quote might have different meanings. I don't think the comic tried to call the pokémon games a mistake.
