I've heard at least 5 kids and 4 teachers have been killed, the hospital near by has went into a lock down like state where if you can't save lives you were sent home.

Very sad day.

NEWTOWN, Conn. (CBS Connecticut/AP) — CBS News is reporting that 27 people are dead, including 14 students, after a shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. The gunman is among the dead.

CBS News’ John Miller reports there is preliminary information that the gunman was the father of one of the students. Miller additionally reports the gunman is 20 years old and is from New Jersey.

The shooter was killed and apparently had two guns, a person with knowledge of the shooting said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation was still under way. It is not known whether the shooter took his own life or was killed.

Two students and a teacher were also injured in the shooting and they were taken to Dansbury Hospital, spokeswoman Diane Burke told CBS News York.

Teachers and police escorted students out of the building following the shooting.

This is really sad news. I briefly saw this article on Yahoo! just now and I can only shake my head when I think of how many lives has been lost to this senseless violence.

It's sickening, regardless of those details. If he was 20 or in his 20s, if 1 or 20 died, it doesn't matter: it's sickening.

This's probably the worst shooting in America I have ever seen, I mean over a dozen children's just insane. This's another strike up on the board for the ban of Automatic weapons in the US.

Same frickin here. Just one or two days ago, some man stabbed a woman in the throat near my college. In the middle of the day, on a walking trail. I'm about to be like spongebob in that one episode and befriend a penny and a potato chip and never go outside.

It's been getting nastier it seems, 3 people killed the owner of a convenient store just 2 days ago...I was even their that night is what's scary too.

Ban them all. Sorry if people are adverse to discussing opinions threads like these, but there's no better time or place.

The gunman has been named as 24-year-old Ryan Lanza whose mother is a teacher at the school. He went from classroom-to-classroom firing at students and teachers with a .223-caliber rifle, allegedly targeting his mother's classroom.

If the above is true that only makes it even more disgusting than I would have thought possible.
