I liked this chapter, it slowed down and we're kind of collected from all the events that no one would have predicted. Although I was hoping we'd see more death. Two main characters died though, well not main but not "nonexistant" either.
I thought this was a good chapter, but I hope that Kubo quickly transitions to the next storyline, which I am assuming is Ichigo getting his sword back or working on his powers because at the moment, he is kind of useless as he said.
Did anyone else think FUCKING SOLID SNAKE after that face close-up on Kyoraku with the eye patch?. I think it's almost clear who will take the place of Yamamoto, at least for now, until he pulls a Jiraya and says the position is too boring.
Byakuya alive after being torn to strips is the biggest troll ever. Kubo probably decided to revert his death due to the rage caused he'd be killed by a random dude that didn't last 10 chapters.
As for Kenpachi I didn't doubt one second he'd be alive. He's death would have contributed nothing to the manga other than rage and people being like "oh pomegranate", unlike Byakuya's condition motivating Ichigo and Renji to get stronger and Rukia to develop Bankai.

No way, Unohana is his senior and he respects her greatly. I bet she would become head captain just because of her senority. Plus it is always hinted that she is very powerful, both in terms of healing and fighting prowess.

I don't wanna cause another argument that makes me reread several chapters again but I can't remember any hints of Unohana being powerful in a fighting way. She doesn't seen like the kind to lead SS in an offensive strategy against the Stern Ritten, not that Kyoraku is either but him and the otehr sick dude whose name I forgot were his closest disciples (or only ones) which only makes sense for Kyoraku to take over.

Well I specifically remember her being Ukitake and Kyoraku's senior.
I do agree that she would not be likely to lead an offensive, but then again I don't think SS is in any condition to lead an offensive anywhere.
I found these while I was looking online for evidence.

kenpachi in a coma was less 'unexpected' and more 'why isnt he still awake and pissed off'
But it might be a good thing he is. See, this is the first time kenpachi officially just got owned effortlessly. The effect on his ego may, as Takebacker; suggests, allow him to finally collaborate with his sword. As for byakuya..I agree I dont see the purpose of going through all that melodramatic crap just to know hes still alive.
