GM owns a player

How does this video prove that it wasn't someone else hacking on the player's account?
How does the GM know that the account wasn't compromised to begin with?
Why would a player get that far within the game, only to hack in such a ridiculous place?
Why would a player who hacked that much, submit five tickets upon receiving a ban?

I'm not saying that a GM doesn't have ways of detecting authentic account-theft, because they clearly do -- but everything about this seems off. Eh. Maybe the player was just really stupid.

@above, regarding: "why would a hacker be malicious enough to go beyond the main draw of hacking for profit, and go out of the way to ensure the person got banned when a mere deletion would have done the trick?"
Malice doesn't have to be the hacker's only motive. For all we know, he could have been trying some new tool, rumored to cause an autoban upon being used, or something. Better to test it on some random dude's account before trying it on his own. Although it isn't hard to make a new account, making a new email address to go along with it is a pain in the ass.

Regarding the sheer improbability of it ... I really don't see the ban as unlikely. Henesys Ruins has been an infamous hacking spot for months. It was stupid of the hacker to go there in the first place, and fitting that he would get caught so soon. I don't think malice was his intent, nor do I think he wanted the player banned. My guess is that the account thief broke into the account, stole everything, and thought he'd end it all by testing some new tool he'd just downloaded. Unfortunately, he tested it in one of the most popular cheating spots in the game (but why should he use discretion? It's not his account!), and -- big surprise -- he was banned by a GM who just happened to be online at the time.

Of course, this is all moot if the account was never compromised in the first place, as the GM said. But that begs the question of how, exactly, the GM knows that the account was never stolen. It bothers me that fewer people on nexon's forums asked about that, and that the GM didn't go into any detail on the subject. IP logging, perhaps?

GM's do trace IP, that's how they determine if you're eligible for compensation if your account is in fact compromised.

Not only that but lately, GM's been lurking through IP addresses and bannig Mules as opposed to multiple accounts being made for hacking.

Not really sure if the right thread, but didn't feel like doing a new one over this. Similar to the topic, because they really seem to become closer to the playerbase. For the past 2 weeks I've seen a GM showing up in Henesys nearly every day at least once. Back in the days there were only rumours about seeing one.

As for today, this GM was chillin' in Hene again chatting actively with maplers. Some guy asked him to show his skills and surprisingly he said sure.

Ofc this raises concern if there's actually more GMs or if the old ones gave up on banning hackers and now sit in Hene instead. Rolleyes

This has been happening in windia too. We have a couple gms that come on that ask to pvp and the main gmazura chats up with us in mya house everyday. He usually smega when he is on, he also does shoutouts for people in his smega. I wish i got the convo when a hacker said "i can level fast with level hack" the gm said "i can ban you faster than you can level hack ^_^"

AfruzianWIN in Windia (Obviously) is a really nice GM.
If you have some patience and ask him in a normal manner to help you out he will.
I told him to follow me to Mutant Tino forest/Jesters/Lionheart castle walls 1/Mutant slimes/Mutant snails/Aliens.
He banned 37 players by guiding him around to them. He now sometimes talks with me through whispers to see
if I found more. Or I just talk to him daily at Maya's house. I dont want to tell to much but I can tell you there's more
going on then you might think.

That's nice to hear, though I haven't seen any evidence of it in Renegades as of yet. The majority of our population is hacking or has mules for hacking, and are damn proud of it. Perhaps it depends on your server. Maybe I should try looking for a gamemaster when they smega next time and see if it has any effect in comparison to the report button.

That's actually pretty uplifting to hear. I'm sure there's more going on than people think there is. But what I don't understand is why obviously duped items are still all over the fm (I'm talking about the super-obvious ones, the hacker-name-tagged ones - found EVERYWHERE, at least in GAZED); and people are obviously NOT banned for possession. If you can raise that issue by your GM friend and let us know about what they think about it, it would clarify a lot of things.

MorbidMagus And it does almost seem like a majority of Renegades hacks. I saw that stupid basil thread.

Are you talking about the vss? Or something else. If the item is possible to scroll then i dont see why nexon would delete it. Also everyone keeps acting as if EVERYONE has these. I have only seen one perfect vss in windia fm. Why dont you go count up how many of these items are in the fm and then think about the maple population. Just cause 50 people have it doesnt mean that its everywhere. Also those 50 people can have the funds to make it either way. Their are some maplers that have perfect vss that arent even duped.

You always bring up the duped gear business in a majority of threads. So what if they have it stop worrying about them. They are playing maple for themselves and not for you so worry about your maple experience an not others. Also its not even a huge advantage compared to others that have the money to pump in to cubes which changes the game.

Don't try and put words in my mouth. I'm talking about things like the Dotcurrencyz tagged duped VSS, the 38 attack ones; I'm talking about the 20 attack duped branch noses, the 20 attack earrings, among other things. In GAZED, I see them quite often in the fm. At any given time, I see about 5-10 Dotcurrencyz-tagged 38 attack duped VSS in separate shops, and the others are also common. Never said EVERYONE has them, but a significant amount of people DO, so why don't you count it up yourself, instead of making baseless assumptions about what funds people do or don't have.

Really? Those people made 38 attack shoes that weren't duped? Well guess what they made it with? Something that WAS duped. Oh, I guess they probably got lucky with gachapon/wheel and got oodles of 10% shoe attack scrolls. Don't kid yourself buddy.

Also, I bet some people know -lolnvmiguess- in Windia.
Well.. lets just say that I talked to Afruzian about him too. He´s getting a background check.
Also, he often doesn´t go with people to find hackers personally because he´s doing events.
He does however make reports of certain things and tells another GM to read/do it.

He said to me he will check a few populair hacking places he put in his report every hour
but I doubt that's really happening.

I don't think it's that easy trying to get rid of items that have been duped or hacked. Take into account that during the process of the first item deletings with the 601 ATK ST, Nexon slowly removed the items but not all at once. I honestly believe that Nexon already knows about this and is already "trying" to delete the items one at the time, but I may be wrong.

What's done is done; you can see that Nexon is trying to improve but the hackers are hacking even more than before and the community is slowly on the side of either doubt or hope.
Nexon doesn't have the power to go against all hackers in the game because certainly, there are probably more hackers than Nexon employees. All they can do is stop the bleeding and figure a way around it.

@ Above, just something bothering me but why isn't the GM's text highlighted like the other screen shots provided?

I remember someone on SP a long time ago confirming there weren't even enough shoe atk 10%s theoretically(at the time) to create one pair of 27 atk VSS.

No I do not. I only bring it up when within the context of the topic.

Pretty selfish statement there. That's the whole deal, people playing the game for themselves and not caring about anything outside of their own little circle.

And I can worry/address/criticize whatever the hell I want to. It really feels like you're trying to somehow hush me up lol with some stupid "it's just a game/does not concern you/this is insignificant" cliche-ed crap. Worried you'd lose your precious stash of duped items?

=Let's conveniently dodge the problem with a completely separate matter.

40-80 attack IS a huge advantage regardless of potential. So quit trying to legitimize this, you've got no ground to stand on.

With a DBA, it's usually VERY easy to wipe those obvious hacker-tagged items (simple select statement - quite easily no less than a few lines of SQL code) as long the appropriate data is available [in this case a data table which would track things like what name is tagged where and/or how much stat this or that item has]. Nexon hasn't done it simply because they are apathetic towards it.

You really cant read can you. My first sentence was about the vss. You said and i quote

impalersbitter Wrote:I'm talking about the super-obvious ones, the hacker-name-tagged ones - found EVERYWHERE

Factor in that GAZED is not just one server its multiple so 100 is not even a significant amount. You only found 10? Out of all the shops in fm 1-22? It sure is EVERYWHERE! Only the ones that were able to afford buying the duped gear in the mts was able to get it. New maplers that are coming in to play dont have that luxury of getting it. Also with the new wave of duping that was going i havent seen any vss pop in the fm lately. You say not everyone has it but, a significant amount do..What is a significant amount in numbers? 200? Maplestory does not consist of 500 people so why such a dire concern of power balance?

Yep they sure did. You dont know so stop acting as if you do.

Stop whining about it. Stop trying to act as if you are the holy grail of maple. In every nexon topic you bring your bitter attitude in. No one was talking about things being duped until you came in. You know why nexon is not banning them? So you can keep repeating yourself in every nexon topic on how they suck. How a pair of duped shoes is affecting YOUR maple story. Just forget about them ever existing, stay in your maple world worry about things that interest you

And yes i am trying to shut you up because sp has changed over the years. People never use to defend nexon a majority hated them with a passion. Now people are seeing the brighter side of things and going along with the progress that nexon is trying to make, but you keep staying in your bitter state.

HEY GUESS WHAT!? You won! You are bitter and will never change. I always wanted to just keep arguing with you, but its not worth it. Your trying to be the new sarah of sp

1. My reference to "everywhere" was obviously that it's quite common, obviously not LITERALLY everywhere. Learn context.
2. Because the whole game consists of the FM only. Just because there's 5-10 items in fm doesn't mean there's 5-10 in the whole server. And let's just give people that advantage for the simple fact that not 100% of players have them (more sarcasm). I'm getting tired of your strawman fallacies.

Refer to 3rd paragraph of post #77 for the answer, so I don't have to keep repeating myself. This is a public opinion forum, so I can express my opinion how I choose within the context given. I don't give a rat's ass if it goes against your selfish easily-dissected views or is inconvenient for you personally. If you don't agree with what I'm saying you can either ignore it or at least come up with a counterargument not made out of thin air like what you've been spewing out so far.

street Wrote:And yes i am trying to shut you up because sp has changed over the years. People never use to defend nexon a majority hated them with a passion. Anyway, let's all just hold each others' hands and praise Nexon for a job that is 25% less half-assed than what it used to be. And because most of the people of SP are so positive means they shouldn't express their opinion, right? Because their opinion is against the selfish opinion of the majority, and things are going oh-so-super-smooth. So it must be BLASPHEMY to have a differing opinion. Again, I don't give a pomegranate about what the majority of SP thinks. I have my own opinion and thankfully live in a country with free speech.

I actually do praise nexon when I see them doing better than before. Doesn't mean I have to stop thinking critically.

I don't even know what the hell you're talking about. I'm used to seeing people losing arguments and then resorting to fallacious/dumb attempts at insults. That one takes the cake.
