SOPA's got nothing on us
#1
if you thought SOPA was bad, just wait until you see what my country came up with (which, as of right now, just lacks the president's approval)

http://infojustice.org/archives/27344

it's a copyright law, however, in short, what this does is that it allows a government branch to declare you guilty of illegal downloads of copyrighted material, fine you for up to 100k dollars, and you're "guilty until proven innocent" (yes, i did not mess that one up) and you have to answer in up to 15 days.

did i mention the money they get does NOT go to the owner of the copyrighted material, but is instead given to the very government branch as pay bonuses of up to 50% of their salary?

we're thoroughly fucked here if this thing passes, and it almost has.

Oh holy Batman on wheels. If this passes in your country, I'm scared the US will be all, "Hey! It worked there! Let's attempt it again here!"

For both our country's sake, please no. ;__;

Wow, man... i feel for you... the fact that its money in THEIR pockets makes it even more appealing to them than past versions.

Heaven help us all if this passes.

our president's known for being... uhh... quite excentric, so really, nobody knows what the hell is going to happen. not a bad guy at all, we've had much worse, but still, this needs his approval now and i hope for the best.

I really don't understand this logic of "Oh pomegranate if it happened there it'll definitely happen here." We're talking about two different governments here. Even if it passes where he lives, it will never pass in the US.

Yet another flavor of the month bill to distract from real issues, nothing to see here, move along.

I think Japan is getting an equally draconian bill going through right now, but there's no point to any of these; they would need to make the entire country a jail to hold all of the people in violation.

The ones whose copyrights are violated get nothing from this, eather.
They get no money, they get no effects back, they get nothing. Exept knowing that people get money because they catched a person who downloaded their stuff illegally.

It sucks.

You didn't emphasize the "never" hard enough. Even if all the dirty politicians in the united states banded together, extorted/bribed reasonable politicians, had sex with the president, convinced the supreme court by way of talent show, the american public would still rip the government to shreds.

The ones whose copyright has been violated do get the fact that the amount of people who violate copyrights will probably decrease a ton after this bill. I'm not trying to advocate for this bill, but you should not take things out of proportion.

How is that taking things out of proportion? The creators lose money as it's stolen, the government get's the benefit of the losses they made. Sure it'll slow down traffic but it won't remove it, nor will any justice be given to the creator.
