Does a monster's level affect drop rate?
#1
Do higher-leveled monsters have a higher drop rate of a certain item compared to a weaker monster?

For instance,

Beia Crash drops from Officer Skeleton and Taurospears.

Taurospear, being the higher monster, do they have a higher drop rate of Beia Crash compared to Officer Skeleton?

drop rate is kind of a mysterious aspect of maple story. As there are no drop tables including the chances they drop. The normal pattern observed is that monsters drop the weaker equips more often than the stronger ones, considering they are the same type (ie headgear). There was some order of rarity to find each item from a monster, being shields and scrolls the hardest.

Droprate for equipment seems to based on the difference the monster's level and the equipment's level. For example, cold eyes drop the level 18 magician hat (I think) very frequently because their level is much higher. Weapons naturally have a lower droprate though.

I believe droprate is determined of the type of item.
For example, etc are the most common whereas hats, shoes, glove equips are considered uncommon before top, bottoms and overalls.
I do believe scrolls, throwing stars and bullets are the rarest as well as weapons.

I feel the monster level increases the chance of finding equipment. It may not be a huge increase (Say 0.3% chance of getting X equipment instead of 0.1% chance), but it adds up. However, there is either a cap on how high the drop % is in general, or certain monsters get a unique % for drops (example is how it's infinitely easier to find scrolls from area boss monsters than it is to find equipment).

You should take the maps/spawn of the monsters into account as well. Going with your example, even if there was a slightly higher chance for macis to drop crash, the spawn rate is terrible, whereas the officer skeleton map has a decent spawn, which would probably increase the chance of getting it in the long run.

Since we don't know much about drop rates in maple, i usually go with the smallest map or the monster with higher/faster spawn rate, and of course monsters that have their own map as opposed to others that share it with 1 or 2 other types of monster.

In my experience, low level monsters have higher drop rates - with the extreme examples being slimes (about 1 in 100 chance of dropping an equip) to Leafre monsters (about 1 in 2000). Note that these are for any item at all to drop - a specific one would be something like 1/10 to 1/50 of this rate (some items more common than others) - I've killed over 60,000 Red Wyverns on my WK and only found 2 Metus, while I killed about 5000 Slimes (way long time ago) and got 4-5 of every equip except the forked spear, and even more of some (12+ Metal Axes iirc)

In terms of finding an item you want, the best way to do it is to go for the monster that is best training experience. Even if you don't find it, you still gain something.
