this gunman had wanted to be in IS so i guess he looked up to their ideals and what they do best, killing people. i highly doubt a peaceful resolution could of came out of this with him surrendering and everyone being let go. in america i bet if an IS affiliated member was to take hostages and make the same depends and there was no hero within the hostages the result would be far different to what happened at martin place.
