How is the final score weighted for the AP Euro test?

I took the practice test two days ago (Saturday) and just got back my Multiple Choice, 2 Essays, and my DBQ today.

Before I go on, here's the breakdown:

Section I - Multiple Choice (50% of total points in test)

Section II - Free Response (50% of total points in test)

- 1st Essay (3 questions, pick one) - 27.5% of Section II total
- 2nd Essay (same goes as 1st essay) - 27.5% of Section II total
- DBQ (Document Based Question) - 45% of Section II total

Results:

- Multiple Choice: 5 (Raw Score: 61/80 . But compared to others in my class, I must say I was shocked at what I got. )

- DBQ (Peasant Revolts/Peasant Parliament of Swabia [1524-1526] in the Holy Roman Empire) - 3 (Likely a raw score of 6 out of 9 for this one)

- 1st Essay (German/Italian Unification: Bismarck vs Cavour) - 3~4. (Likely a raw score of 6 out of 9 for this one)

- 2nd Essay (anti-Semitism in Europe during the 19th century) - 3 (Likely a raw score of 6 out of 9 for this one)

Based on this AP Euro score calculator, I got a 5 overall. I think its a bit of a shock to me, can anyone check if the scoring's done to the most accurate result possible?

P.S. For math geeks that want to dump this into a calculator - Equation is:

1.125(# of MC correct) + 2.75 (Essay score) + 2.75 (Essay Score) + 4.50 (DBQ score)

Max total is 180 for the composite score. Rough composite score scale is here:

5 = 114–180

4 = 91–113

3 = 74–90

2 = 49–73

1 = 0–48

The only thing you didn't mention is that you lose 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer to Section I.

Assuming that you got 58 correct and 0 wrong, then your composite score is 125, which is a 5.

I have to take this on Friday. 5 hours of my Friday wasted! 12:30-5pm.

I think the equation I've provided already factored in the points you don't get if you get questions wrong. (I think the only credit you get is the points you gain from correctly answering questions) In my case.....I got 22 questions wrong (there's 80 Q's)

The equation you posted doesn't, because you only lose marks for incorrect answers, not unanswered questions. If you leave the question blank you don't lose any marks, only if you attempt it and get it incorrect.

If you attempted all the questions and got 58 correct and 22 wrong, then your composite score is 120, which is still a 5.

I took the practice test on Spark Notes, got 35 right and 25 wrong.

But even with that, getting a 5/9 for every open response still gets you a 4. I think I can manage a 5 on those.

By the way, what's the grading ruberic for the open response questions? I've seen the DBQ one, but I have no idea how they grade the open response questions.

Just to clear it up, our teacher makes sure we don't leave any questions blank. In our practice test, its counted as wrong so that's why I left out the "left question blank" factor.

I'm not going to take any chances anyways when I do this test 2 days from now because I'll make sure I'll mark every answer down, whether I know it or not.

you're exempt from the one's you skipped o.o, you lose .25 for every one you marked that is wrong

As strange as it may sound, in this particular case the odds are in his favour, but only very slightly. For every 8 guesses, on average you will gain +1 to your composite score. But since this increase it so low (only +0.125 per guess), it's usually not worth the risk.

Oh, good. Looking at that ruberic, it should be easy to get at least a 5 or 6.
