The Legacy of Nine update is all about celebrating MapleStory's past while looking to its future. We're always aiming to make the game better, and as such we've been retooling many of MapeStory's systems, including pets. The pet system has been rebuilt from the ground up and is better than ever.


Pet skill equipment items (Item Pouch, Wing Boots, etc.) and pet rings have been removed. Pet skill equips have been replaced with permanent skills that your pet can learn. These are available in the Pet > Pet Skills category of the Cash Shop. Train your pet to automatically feed you potions, provide buffs, and increase their movement. Choose carefully when you apply a skill to your pet, as the skill will become bound to that specific animal.

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

In addition, pets that could use the Pet Quote and Pet Label rings now come with their very own Pet Quote, Pet Label, Item Pick Up, and Meso Pick Up skills!

The Pet Equip window has also been given a fresh new look. Set all of your skills and accessories for each of your pets in a single window. You can also uncheck the Auto Feed or Item Pouch Skills to disable any unwanted actions.


We’ve updated the list of available pets and unified the pricing. Many of the pets that were removed may have permanent versions offered during special promotions in the future. Pets are available in the Pet category of the Cash Shop.

it's an upgrade really, before you had to unequip every skill and transfer them all, now you just transfer the single pet with all the skills and presto

I guess it's more for people who want to buy a new pet on the same character rather than the other way round, as you need to buy a whole new set of equips at the same time.

But honestly, they're so cheap that I don't care about that side of it.

that said, if you didn't have perma skills before, this is a direct upgrade, only us old timers truly got hit

maybe they were waiting to people make their own guides so they could understand how this new system works

Gee, this would have been nice a week or two ago. Part of me thinks that they purposely waited to release the 'guide' so people could squander their 'compensation' and actually spend money to get them back later.
