He learned from his mistake about telling someone to get cancer, by getting cancer. It's not like he had some great epiphany and thought "oh god, saying something like that is hurtful and in incredibly bad taste."

He never should have said something like that in the first place. He only seems to understand how serious cancer is now that he's got it.
Like I said before, it's great that he's doing his bit now that's it's relevant for him, but I still see the dark irony in the situation, and it IS funny, in a pineappleed up way.

Some of the comments in this thread could have been worded better though, granted.

gonna stop you right there. The unfortunate truth is that not necessarily all types of slavery in the history of ever were wrong.
Not all slavery was gang slavery as you probably think. Of course everyone agrees that was horrible and wrong.
There was also indentured servants and the task system of slavery.
Under the task system, once the day's work was done, the slaves had the rest of the day off. They could even have their own plat of land to grow crops for themselves to sell in market.
And you should already know about indentured servitude unless the education system has failed us more than I thought.
