Differences between CMS and GMS
#1
I know this thread sounds pointless and I dunno which forum page it should be in (though I guess it should be here).
To those who don't know me, I'm JezzaRules younger sister (the guy who used to be very active here until Dec 2nd) and I want to share with you all about my experiences when I played CMS and the major differences I encountered. I'm not here to criticise or put down any of those versions but to compare the major differences within the two.

First off you cannot roll your own stats at the start for some reason, oddly enough I started with like 12 STR and 8 DEX whereas my INT and LUK values were like 4. I reckon it is possible to alter your stat values but it's different in CMS.

Like GMS, CMS has Mushroom Town Training camp. The only minor difference I believe is that GMS doesn't have one quest (which was somehow removed) I believe it was called 'Nina and Sens Dinner Menu' or something like that.

The MAJOR difference in Maple Island is that the NPCs are rearranged in different places and there's less quests compared to GMS. I happen to recall that the quest 'Pio and the Recycled goods' only requires 5 woods and 5 screws to make the relaxer (GMS requires 10 of each). The major bummer here is that doing all the quests level you to around 6-7 unlike GMS.
Another interesting thing to note is that you can return to Maple Island in that version but it costs money and fame (I think). I did manage to see some high levels in a particular channel ksing new players which was a bit unfair.

CMS also has the monster book which works (GMS monster book data hasn't been properly implemented) but the monster cards are unbelievably uncommon or rare. I only managed to find 3 cards off green snails despite hunting them for like 3 hours. This might mean that the drop rate of the cards for GMS in the future might be very rare (hopefully Nexon might nerf it).

Gameplay aside, I also find the translations awfully weird. Some of the town names in the Map data were weird. If I can remember the names (most of the chinese characters I cannot remember), I think it was something like this:

 Spoiler

Also you can type Chinese by pressing Ctrl + Shft at the same time alternating between english and Chinese, I learnt the hard way trying to communicate with other players who swore at me in chinese T_T.

That's all there is I think though there may be more. In terms of PQs, CMS has the English School PQ which was dead easy for me that is. Aside from the area releases, CMS and GMS has alot of differences.

What's English School PQ? I could look it up--but I'd rather have someone who's had first hand experience with it, lol.

Can't confirm it but I was told in China MS, the scroll prices are very different. Certain 10% scrolls are worth 100mil+ due to the fact of the high abundance of White Scrolls and their low values of approximately 50mil each...

Nina and Sen's Dinner Menu has been removed for months - since the last quest update, for sure, and possibly before that. :X

I believe we've been following kMS with the quests, or Nexon might have done their own for easier leveling - they mentioned that at some point.

And yes, unfortunately, you can go back to Maple Island in cMS. I hope they never implement it here, because then islanders are destroyed. Tongue

-cough- MTS -cough-

Then again, now that I think of it, the MTS only allowed islanders to show off, as you could scroll stuff and get new gear and whatnot. It still ruined islanders for me.

Tykian, out of curiosity, did you have an islander? :o

MTS allowed everyone to move around faster and attack faster. It isn't too much of a gain over grinding without MTS - I might be able to get an extra % an hour if I really focused and had some good stuff. :/ Also, pure STR islanders can now have an 80 minimum.

If they let everyone come back, then beginners and islanders can just move back and forth as they please and no one would ever really know who was still an islander and who wasn't. :X

I did, on Bellocan actually.

Was... 24 or something? Don't remember his name.
At any rate, it still killed some pieces of it. Dex islanders were always 1hko, where as pure strength was to show-off damage, etc. I just don't think MTS should be available until you leave Maple Island, is all.

You should remember it so I can find out if I recall the IGN or not. XD

And I agree completely.

I think we should probably take this thread back to CMS and GMS instead of MTS and islanders...XD

In MSEA its worse. U could send items from ur main to ur islander thru Duey by buying a special CS ticket. Islanders now hav PACs, Sake Bottles, and the stuff. Thank goodness ZHelms arent tradeable... For now.

So THAT'S how you do it. I was wonder how to type Chinese.

Here are some screen shots I took from HKMST:
I made this a long time ago, so it may be outdated.

Definitly is outdated. Biggs' quest, IIRC, got the update of 1 orange mushroom cap and 5 blue snail shells when we got the colored work gloves and sporty caps. Now, Fruit Knives are non-existant aside from those who have them from before the quest. You only get a Razor from the quest, and it is untradable. You can still buy tradable ones from the shop on island, though.

Also, almost all of those map updates were added for gMS at some point. Snail Hunting Ground III, however, never had Stumps and Red Snails.

We got another update after that one. Split Road, Field West/East of Amherst, and a few others are changed. There's also the addition of West Field of Southperry.

Eww, Ctrl+Shift is how I switch to QWERTY from Dvorak. Overlapping hotkeys = fail.

You can't switch to Dvorack ingame. Frown

Bigg's quest doesn't exist anymore o-o

The one we have now involves killing 1 orange mushroom and bringing back 1 cap, and just gives experience/fame/mesos I believe.

@ tzk but you can set it to default. It works on my comp.

Don't you have to assign the hotkey anyway? Just change it. :f6:

But won't the key settings be messed up?

O_O
There's 50+ Islanders in SEA?
Anyway, you still have to train off of Mushrooms. In cMS, one could easily leave the Island, cPQ once or twice, then come back. Frown
