The Weakness of GMS Luminous
#21
Aside from the shitty gauge and stuff, I'm really annoyed at Reflection's animation. It seems bugged.

KMS versions ftw?

That's what bugs me the most about our Luminous.
There are issues with the system and it feels like something you'd see in a pre-release test version.
It doesn't feel like they finished the changes, it's like it was changed just so that ours would be different ._.

It also got rid of the uniqueness of having it instantly switch modes on you, now if you really wanted you have the option to stick to one mode, which isn't what Luminous was supposed to be about.

Another thing that really bugs me about our Luminous removal of the choice between Light or Darkness at the beginning.
I know it's not a huge deal in the long run, but it was nice idea and I don't see why they even bothered getting rid of it. If they wanted everyone to have that +5% skill for both light and dark, they could've instantly given it to you when you advance to 2nd job or something (See: Phantom, and how he gains Judgement Draw).

Also, thanks to only being able to go through the Dark storyline, there are no Light-Luminous overalls in-game at all =| which means people don't have the option of anvil things to look like that. (Small nitpick, but still sucky imo)

Don't forget how sometime post-equilibrium glitches and you end up without sunfire or eclipse. The only way out is using Equalize.

I read somewhere that it's just sped up, causing it to look bad. It's also the same on CMS and I would presume any other version with the Feather-system of Luminous.

Had the same/similar issue in KMS, but it could be fixed by filling the gauge with Sunfire or Eclipse cancelling the other out and going into Equilibrium. This would only takes 30-40 sec if you're spamming Reflection/Apocalypse on a single target... (don't remember if they fixed it entirely or not).

It is just sped up, but the problem is it doesn't match the actual cast time of Reflection. =/

I think it would be cool if they kinda mix both versions by reseting the cooldown of the equilibrium mode everytime you complete a feather.

They just need to tweak our cooldown for Equilibrium. Staying on one side all the time is actually very beneficial at many places, which was why this design came out. Considering that Spectral Light is still ridiculously strong, they probably need to tweak... something. That be a long time away.

Or make the Gauges give +%DMG or something for each point, not unlike Xenon's gauges.

You can't beat 1v1 DPS when going against another class with a similar type skill *coughMMcough*

Honestly, I think what they should do for the feathers is make dark skills increase the light feathers and vice verse, then lower to cooldown for switching to like 30 seconds and have equilibrium last for 10 seconds or so while having the feathers increase the damage of their corresponding skills by around 2-5% each.

Maybe they could make turn it into a split class. Or add a skill that lets you change between KMS's system and GMS's system.

Well, after sometime playing around with my luminous(in MSEA), I'll admit that having to be forced to use both sides can be quite a con, especially since dark skills are slow af.

Dark skills hit pretty hard though.

which is pointless when you ohko mobs anyway. Having to wait for pressure void to animate to kill one puny mob is sort of stupid and continuously using light skills in dark mode will increase the frequency of the screen blinking(iirc, it was annoying).

When I'm at Dimensional Invasion, I use Apocalypse because I can do 1HKOs most of the time to get past the spawn tick point (so the next wave of mobs spawn immediately). When I'm bossing I use Light because Spectral Light is still pretty crazy DPS.

The order of Burst-DPS during bossing for me is to start with Light, spam Spectral Light till I get one Light point, use Equalise/Memorise, and when the buff wears out I activate ToC and follow with Equilibrium. Notice that Equalise has a long delay but Equilibrium doesn't, so ToC should always be used for the 2nd part of the burst DPS. Also, it gives you a chance to recharge your Dark Crescendo. I tend to call this "Dual-Equlibrium", though "Equilibrium Echo" makes more sense.

More often than not, you will die when you are not in Equilibrium, and it doesn't take that long to recharge a Light point when you die. The balance of charging and cooldown periods is pretty good, so in this sense the GMS system is extremely advantageous if you want to stay at one side all the time. Imagine doing Dimensional Invasion, and you cannot kill mobs in 1 hit with Reflection or Spectral Light but can do so with Apocalypse. Your total time needed will increase drastically if you use the KMS system. IMO Equilibrium is wasted on non-bossing phases or phases when Stance is needed.

But true, our points are wasted when we're mobbing/training. We need them to be better utilised.

Obviously if you don't die, you won't lose your gauge points. So, don't die.

That's true, for most bosses you can just avoid being killed. However, it isn't 100% possible to avoid everything in the game. Like enough examples already out there, a for sure death is always going to Hard Hilla when soloing. Can't tell me that your bind would last long enough to kill her instantly so she wouldn't throw out a cage on you for a 100% death rate.

That's being unreasonable. But in the first place the cooldowns are long enough for you to charge up one point to pull off an Equilibrium Echo. If one point in, say, Light, is all you need, then it hardly makes a difference if you lose all 10 points, or just one point.

Death is unavoidable at times, true, but then that simply becomes part of the game.

I guess I'm in the extreme minority of people who don't give a pineapple and still plays a Luminous.

In fact, I love my Luminous.

Agreed, in most normal cases you will be fine. Hard hilla dispels, seduces, and cages you so much that you really don't have time to charge up another gauge fast enough though. I would believe I've done enough end game content to know that the same strategy doesn't work everywhere, same for teleport as an avoiding skill.

Who even wants to fight hard hilla anymore? Any death from her removes full amounts of XP, and has the 100% hp attack that replaces 1/1. There are far too many ways to dwindle your exp to 0 from 99 in that fight.

The worst part is when you die and come back sometimes even with equalize you have to wait till after equilibrium cools down to even use it because it glitches up sometimes and you don't gain an energy thing on either side. making it even harder to boss.

Hmmm... I think it comes down to what Luminous is being used for, at least from my view point of things....

I think GMS Luminous is perfect for mobbing, which is what I mostly do. I can stay in light mode for hours on end, since Apocalypse isn't nearly as effective for mobbing. I don't think GMS Luminous is bad, but rather, has a different use. There are some bugs as mentioned, so it is far from perfect, but I think GMS Luminous makes for a better mobber, which is Luminous's strong suit to begin with, not a bosser.
