North Korea threatened specific bases in Japan and Guam

Someone please tell NK that CoD black ops is only meant to be a game, not the real thing...?

Anyways, its a sticky situation, in a sense that NK can't be invaded, nor be left alone. We can't cut off their food supply, or they'll fire their missiles and chem weapons everywhere and start taking over resources from the south. We can't invade them either, cuz god knows how much other promegranate they have in their underground tunnels. We can't sit on our hands and hope they will run out of resources, cuz they have most resources available to do a final attack.

I guess we will have to wait and see what they will do next.

Unless they destroy themselves which is what they have been doing to their people ever since... some 50 years ago?

The problem is how they do so. They nuke themselves or SK it's going to f`uck up a lottt of places. That's why I believe china would sooner either control them or just fucking annihalate them before they could pose an indirect threat to the neighboring countries.

North Korea has been pretty much the only one to make actual threats in a long ass time. The reason nobody does anything is because they don't have anything we need and they aren't a large enough threat to anybody.

They will in fact attack eventually, but only then will anybody do anything. It's pomegranatety logic but it's how it works. You have to be attacked first in order to attack yourself so you don't look pomegranatety to the rest of the world. Plus being attacked means your citizens are far more likely to want to fight for you. It allows you to pull the LOOK-AT-WHAT-THESE-GUYS-DID-TO-US-THEY-KILL-YOUR-FAMILIES-YOU-GONNA-TAKE-THAT?!?! card. Then your allies are like, ''What?! Nah ah! I know they didn't just diss my homie like that!'' so they join in where needed.

An under developed country with a desperate need to refresh its infrastructure, economics and re-educate its people? Sounds like a business paradise to me. Even though ultimately SK will have the most legitimate claim to NK's land, it still provides mouth watering possibilities into the advantages that most businesses can take in this land of beginning. There aren't that many places in the world where one can go in and develop things from almost scratch.

Though it is highly unlikely that NK will be flattened for rebuild. SK will want to take over NK to end the divide, but they need a lot of help to do that... China wouldn't want that to happen, because in order to invade NK, it would be strategically beneficial to place a land invasion force near the flatter part of NK (the western side), meaning China will have to provide some space for the US to build new base of attack of some sort on their land, which forces them to co-operate with and open to the US - a stupid move diplomatic wise. Not to mention a war against NK will further hurt the US economy, doing no good to China's finance. Also China certainly doesn't want nuclear missiles targeting its own cities. The Russians will bathe at the idea with an American base next to their door step spying whatever they have going on secretly in Sibera, not to mention they will no longer be able to ninja some stuff to NK for a quick buck. Japan doesn't want SK to expand, but it does not have any legitimate claim to NK's resources, so the most it will do is to defend itself and provide backup support for US troops.

Even though a war does break out, it would have a fast beginning, but slow progress thereafter. The eastern part of the country will be where most of the NK army retreat to after pyongyang eventually falls. Even though the weather is unforgiving, you would think the vast tunnels in the mountainous area would be able to sustain the regime for years to come... so the whole thing might turn out to be another Iraq invasion.

Imo, this seems unlikely. I may be mistaken, but I doubt that North Korea's civilian population loves their current government enough to act in a prolonged insurgency once Pyongyang presumably falls. This situation with North Korea is pretty different than that of Iraq.

Actually, my understanding is that even if NK wanted to rejoin SK at this point, SK doesn't want them because it would ultimately cost them too much money to reintegrate them. As a result unless NK is completely destroyed I don't think there will ever be a merger of the two Koreas anytime soon. Which means that NK is completely fu'cked in their current state. They're not going to get any better the way they're acting and no one wants them.

I just noticed it just had to be a coincidence for NK to be making these threats after what, 50 years?

New leader, new policies, new level of insanity.

The civilians won't help them for a long time, but the army can run and last for quite a while. The analysis from the US/UN report (or w/e its called) stated that most of NK's weaponry facilities are underground, even their aircraft hangers. That means they probably have a lot more promogranates hidden underground in the mountains than the US combined. One possible way to ease the complexity of the underground tunnel complex is to get it from the surrendering soldiers or generals. I was only comparing the tunnel and mountainous warfare with the one in Iraq... and yeah, that dragged on for a long time.

You are right. Merging of countries has never been easy. The east west Germany merger is a good example. However, international pressure will come into play, and if NK government did get ousted like accidentally leveling to 200, the International community will point their fingers at SK saying they were the ones who said they would end this divide once and for all. SK will have nowhere to hide.

It is extremely unlikely the Kims will get ousted by force. They just wanted to make their new leader sound like a superman, just like the previous leaders (11 continuous hole in ones... wtp?). However, the US will do whatever it takes to stir up the situation. It is always a strategically advantageous to be the leader of the world and try to dominate in one way or the other. They managed to invade Iraq based on non-existent stuff... let alone this time there IS solid evidence of the real stuff.
