Power Supply?

Okay, so I've decided to get this video card for my new PC. Now, this PC only has a 300W power supply, which is the minimum requirement for this card. Now, should I get a new power supply as well?

The PC is running an AMD Phenom Quad-Core, 6GB of RAM (4 sticks), 640GB SATA HDD, and a DVD burner. Is 300W sufficient for all this + the video card? =\

If not, what's a good PSU to consider? I'm on like a $100 budget here, and the card alone is $70, so $30-range for the PSU?

I'd consider getting a new power supply...probably 500W minimum.

I kind of like to think of it compared to minimum requirements for a video game. Sure, it'll work...but it might suck badly.

I ran through a little PSU wattage calculator, and everything, including the card, at 100% load would only use up 250W. That is of course, assuming the calculator is credible, which it seemed to be.

But taking your advice, and just to put my mind at ease, I found a 400W PSU for $20 which had all 5-star (egg? xd) reviews, so I think I'll get that one as well.

That videocard is low-mid range, so you don't need a powerful power supply. For your system, you need something around 400W at most.

If you skimp on your PSU, you run the risk of burning the rest of your system. DO NOT trust Newegg reviews.

Watts aren't a good indicator of a PSU's performance, I'm sure both PSU's I linked severely outperform that $20 PSU you found.

^ That's the one I got, it was on sale for Cyber Monday which explains the cheap price tag. It has sufficient amperage on the 12V rail and all the connectors needed, so I decided to go with it.

And I usually don't go by reviews either because they're mostly BS, but I Google'd some professional reviews off other sites, and this PSU did well.

Ah nice, yes, Silverstone makes good PSU's. I was skeptic about the price, but the Cyber Monday deal makes it all have sense.
