Rope and Thread used to be sold by the "Card". It's a wooden plank (shaped like the thing in the picture) and the rope is wound around it. Thread was sold on cardboard Cards (still is actually) when the amount of thread is too small to justify the cost of putting it on a spool.

Even more ingenious is the coming Event that completely randomizes your look and you have to spend $100's of dollars to get it back again...or not if its a time-limited hair/face/etc. lol

Uhh, in jMS those dropped at so good rate that you could basically randomize look until you come up with something cool. At least I though so?

I'm thinking of trying this on my f\p since i got bad hair with him using the newbie hair coupon, and if I cant get anything good ill just wear the andras hat till i get a targa one. But nonetheless, yes quite the ingenious idea I can't wait for all the people that used royal hair coupons to get angry that people can get their hair without spending 100k nx.
