New York Passes Marriage Equality

Tradition and opposition to change, two things we all have within us and block us from advancing and creating new concepts. But they are not really arguments, just inertia and a narrow view of the world.

I don't really think that allowing gay marriage has something to do with the feeling that makes the marriage happen. It's still something about love, just the genders are different. Marriage sure has changed lately, some people don't care about the votes they made, the speech is now irrelevant, and it goes more likely "it will last until one of them get tired" rather than "only the death will break this couple".

But this has nothing to do with gay rights. Something that really bothers me are some arguments from people in my country lately. Some months ago, a new law has been approved, granting gay couples the right to adopt without any obstacles, and the same rights as other couples, such as being able to include the partner in the testament.
By that day, the radios had some interviews with people, and it sounded much more likely an ignorance rain.

Some of the comments were really facepalm worthy. A man said "Oh right, our world got to be fucked up, now they want those children adopted by those guys to be gay like daddy. And i thought our society was bad enough".

It's interesting on how these people think sexual options are likely a virus, that is going to be passed through love, and that is going to devastate the world. Another guy said "What are they wanting? To approve the gay marriage here? What's after? Marriage with horses? cows?"
Some comparisons are completely ridiculous, that it's not even worth discussing.

But one shows what i was talking about, on how gay couples are blamed for "ruining the society, and corrupting values".

A man said later in another radio interview "Those gay couples shouldn't even exist. They're responsible for the fact more and more kids are becoming gay, allowing gay marriage is just a "It's okay to be gay, you should become too! Our society's values are getting devastated, marriages don't last anymore, and pornography is totally connected to our society"

It's so much ignorance that it's hard to say what's relevant. It's interesting, on how the guy blames gay couples for corrupting society, they call a gay couple in the TV here as obscenity, that it's something offensive to children, when they don't say anything about parents watching TV shows with women that show at least 80% of their bodies, and half of their asses on TV. Why? Because it's something heterossexuals are interested on, so it's not considered obscenity. It's just pure hipocrisy to ignore such thing, but say that homossexual couples on TV are part of pornography and obscenity.

Because that's actually a view of a lot of people, that homossexuality, because of the name, suggest that it's something sexual, and only. When it's not, why doesn't love exist in such couples? Love isn't something that depends on the gender. It's also interesting on how some people have that view about gay marriage, it's not a big billboard saying "BE GAY!". It's just granting the same rights that heterossexual couples have, to homossexuals. There's nothing wrong with it, both are still about humans, the only difference are their preferences.

Kids don't become gay because their parents are. It's not some stupid thing that is totally determined by where the kid is. It's not a deadly virus that can be passed with contact. There are many kids praying to have parents in orphanages, there are many couples wanting to have children, to love them and to care for them, why not allow it?

A judge tried to nullify that law, by saying that "No homossexuals can be considered as a family". But, if they have a good house, a good amount of money, the right amount of everything that would allow a straight couple to adopt, why can't they be a family? What's wrong with it?

Ignorance is not something exclusive to people that haven't studied. Everyone in every social sphere can have it, as you can see by this guy. I don't really see a difference between such couples in such aspect, speaking of differences, it's the true problem in his speech. Accepting that something different isn't something wrong, gay couples already exist, gays exist, and not mentioning the word gay, chasing gays won't make they disapear.

Gays aren't a deadly infection that is growing in the world, it's just a different option that is being more and more accepted in the society, that's why the numbers are growing.
My teacher was arguing about this in that day, and some people of my class were saying that you need to chase it if you want it to end, that in the future, the world is going to be gay, but it really has nothing to do with it.

Some said that as a true heterossexual, you needed to fight agains't it. But you don't need to be gay, to see that this is wrong, and that we're still talking about humans. I'm not gay, but that means i can't accept the fact they deserve the same rights as me? Does that mean prejudice is also about a sexual choice? I don't really care about what people say about this here.

A sexual option is a choice, the same way prejudice is a choice. There's no need to live such a hateful life, as i see many people in here doing it. Gays aren't the responsible of ruining marriages, granting them a right they deserve doesn't change anything in the fact marriage has changed.
The same way society has changed it's thoughts regarding the marriage, i hope in the future, society can let go of such medieval thoughts. :o

To be honest I don't think this should be an issue to begin with. If they want to get married what does it matter? It doesnt impact me in anyway.
