I believe that it is genuinely a good song that spreads a great message. Don't change who you are for others and just be yourself. And if others don't like who you are, well, haters gonna hate. Of course Kesha tried to beat Gaga to it by releasing We R Who We R which is pretty half assed compared to Gaga, but I digress. Even though I haven't heard the actual song the lyrics are still meaningful. Something mainstream music really lacks these days.
tl;dr: what do you think of Gaga's "Born This Way" lyrics?
Kesha isn't the only one putting out these ''Love who you are~! Be yourself~! <3'' songs. It seems like it's another ''it'' thing. Pink did it, Katy Perry(sp?), etc.
I mean, technically Xtina did it first with "Beautiful." Pop songs about loving who you are and being proud of that aren't exactly a rare genre.
Personally, I like the lyrics and think they're some of the best there can be for a pop song. That's not saying much. I think of all genres of vocal music pop is bottom tier when it comes to interesting, poignant lyrics, because, let's face it, that's kind of what pop music tends to be: engaging dance music. I don't think it's impossible for pop to be revolutionized into something more profound, and Gaga has not only said that's her aim but is clearly doing that with this single and her upcoming album.
All that being said, my basic issue is that I don't find the lyrics to be that creative. I mean, I'm sure the song will be great, but if we're looking solely at the ability to create a mood within the realm of the selected verbiage, pop music kinda sucks at that, with Gaga only half breaking that norm. I suppose it makes sense, though, to have more "dumbed down" lyrics, per se, as it makes the song more accessible to the general population. It's just nice when you see a band like Ludo, however, that can lay down an awesome musical track and pair it with beautifully poetic lyrics.
i love gaga, ke$ha and miley equally. why put miley into the equation? cause' these three have the most haters compared to other mainstream pop artistes.
Maybe she is finally admitting to the public she is in fact not just a "she"? (sarcasm)
Overall, I'm not a big fan of Gaga... The vocals throw me off. She's always very close to, but never on key... If she is on key, it doesn't fit the song itself. I could go into more details, but I can't listen to music at work...
I can respect her as an artist for being 110% willing to break the mold, and I appreciate that in a world of conformism, she will be the odd-man out (no pun/joke intended). Too many artists now-a-days conform to the "mainstream" sound of their genre, in order to sell records.
The lyrics genuinely seem like they were written by her, unlike Miley, who probably has a pop song writer, and she is merely the image, not the artist. Then again, we all know Miley is daddy's little retirement fund, considering she is one of 7? siblings, and the only one who's name the average person even knows.
Regardless, I'm a metalhead and I probably won't listen to the song. I avoid the radio. My opinion of Gaga remains on the fence. I appreciate her artistic approach, but I can't bring myself to appreciate the vocals... Paparazzi has wayyy too much falsetto for it's own good, and her songs flow in and out of the mainstream so quickly that I can't even recall offhand the names of her other songs.
I adore Lady Gaga.
She's a true artist and isn't afraid to demonstrate it.
