White Christmas Hill Event Ruined
#41
How many christmas decoration things do you need? I put like 300 the first time, and the bar went up, then I put like 2k and the bar was back at 0. ;_;

Not like there's much else you can do right?

Well the hackers aren't the ones bringing in the pieces, if no one turns them in the hackers can't hack anything.

This is a really good idea. It wouldn't completely solve it but it's easier than waiting for the tree to explode and actually requires less effort than monitoring tons of channels.

This is similar to what we did in OdinMS to handle vac claims. Have a GM drop a rare item in a way that looks like it came from somewhere naturally (usually one of our non-GM or secret GM characters), and see if that person vacs it. Or, like what happened during a few GM events, when hackers think they can get away with it just because they're hiding in a crowd of people all after the same item, we drop a unique item in a place that's impossible for normal players to reach, see it get vacced into the crowd, and ban the person with that item in their inventory. It was simple to do, but I really don't think they have the manpower or time to moderate like this. The hackers don't care if they're banned either, because they're most likely using mule accounts for snowflake farming anyway.

Vaccers should be banned by the IP, not by the account. I don't think Nexon bans by IP. Yeah, you can change it, however it may be more effort then it's worth for the vaccers. I mean, they are hacking because it's so easy to. If they are banned continually and have to work to fix it, it will work at least a little bit in our favor.

Nexon SHOULD have the manpower for this. They are making a ton of money off of us, if they don't have the manpower to do this crap, that's THEIR fault. The number one thing you need to worry about when making an MMO, in relation to the community, is this exact problem. They should be more than prepared at this point to handle any type of situation like this. There's no excuse.

Odin was run by people who were competent, and also had access to the DB.

If you're stuck on a GM account that can basically look at characters and choose to ban them, there's not much you can do to detect vacs.

The problem with automatic systems again comes down to "don't know how the game works" - if you put it in a place regular players can't go, but forget about WH mounts, or recoil shot, or teleport... well, regular players get banned.

Or just rework this retarded event into something that hackers can't ruin, because everybody has their own individual opportunity (rather than a single communal one for hackers to urinate into)

Events like these are always going to fail because people are greedy. they really just should never ever have events like this, they can do so much better.

They should just have snowflakes drop randomly from monsters or something, like how the rascals do.

The difference is is that as Kunagisa has mentioned, the item magically flew into the crowd of players, AKA a vaccer.

They should have either made them come out of Gift Boxes, much like an event shortly after Resistance was released in KMS, or make it so that your contribution grants you a random amount of decorations based on it.
For example, 500 Decorations = 1-2 Golds and 25-50 Blue. That way the vaccers can't abuse it and everyone has a fair amount of gain, it's purely based on how many you hand in, instead of completely random AND based on if you have a good connection or not. If your connection sucks, and there's a lot of people, you're absolutely screwed.
