Correct use of the comma.

My ELA teacher tells us not to seperate the last two items in a list with a comma, but I really don't care. I do whatever I feel like at the moment.

I've always been taught that the second one was correct. I've never been told different. Oh, and I live in the United States.

I was taught the first one.
I don't know why it should matter, though..
