Tips for video making.
#1
I have recently got into video making, but my quality isn't all that great. I shoot with fraps full, and edit with WMM. How can I boost the quality on youtube. Also, I notice people on youtube have parts where they have zoomed in, how can I do that? Also, for some reason, the "Watch in High Quality" option won't come up for my videos.

Well, I'm unsure how WMM works. However, most people, I think, make the file they upload to a .flv file with a rather high quality. (Use super for making .avi to .flv)

High-quality option usually never come up. Just link with &fmt=18 or &fmt=6 in the end.

Yeah, these programs are much better. With wwm, its super basic. Use things like transitions and video effects for zooming and stuff. It really doesn't promise much.

though you -can- get by with wmm, its just how creative you use it. ive always used mmw because im lazy about learning to use premiere and vegas

To get the "Watch in High Quality" option to come up, I always save the video file as something like "Video for Local Playback". I doubt it's the right way to do it, but my simple WMM videos always come out under the YT file size limit and always have the HQ option so it works for me. This is just if you don't want anything fancy though, since WMM is a really bad editor. Like the above poster said, you'll need Vegas or Premiere for some of the cool tricks.

Do Vegas or Premiere cost any money?

Do you mean zooming or cropping?

Cropping: With Vegas, you look at your timeline/storyboard and you click on the square thing on the right hand side of the clip and then a screen pops up. Just drag the box to whatever you want it to crop into. If you want wide screen, near the top it should say present. Change it from default to 16:9.

Zooming: Done on the same screen of vegas. Below the picture, you'll see a timeline. Merely set your screensize at the beginning of when you want to zoom and set the size of the endresult zooming and it'll zoom naturally.

As others have said, Vegas/Adobe > WMM by A LOT. Yes they cost money but there are... alternative ways of getting them >_> Im pretty sure Sony Vegas has a free 1 month trial

Other tips for higher quality: Film in extremely high quality (60-80 FPS). That way, when the quality dies on you, it'll still look decent as you filmed it in "higher quality" (higher quality goes to high quality, high quality goes to medium quality, etc). Quality isnt really an issue in terms of videos if you're using WMM though: Everything is just small on the screen that its hard to see, no matter how high of quality you film in.
