Detective should get results back as European or Japanese, because come on, ninjas are from Japan.

Again, wrong. Espionage existed since the dawn of fighting governments. spies and informants disguised as every-day citizens to infiltrate and obtain information about a rival nation. That which you know as "ninjas" are merely the abstract idea of some media entertainment group somewhere. true ninja's do not cavort about in the pitch of night wearing all black, blue, red, or heaven forbid white, with fishnets everywhere, they dressed in simple garb and wear as any ordinary citizen of the area they infiltrate would wear.
