Can't decide where to start

After hearing the difficulty of cubing your own good equips, I've become wary of doing it myself extensively for little to no benefit. Ideally, I want equips to share with my Aran, so my reverse spear and other untradeables are not first on the list, so that leaves armor. I haven't potentialed my armor yet, so would it be reasonable to find new equipment instead to upgrade, or just focus on getting what I have good first?

The idea is to find some drops that will cover your needs before you go and use potential scrolls on existing good armor/weapons, cause it is likely to boom
what you already have.
