"People and Things that have changed the world or how we view it"

Prompt for a website we're designing in class. I thought it'd be fun to do Gangis Khan.
I was wrong.
Lost all interest in it, and I have until Wednesday to chose a new one, or stick with this. I didn't want to do something inside the box, like Martin Luther King Jr, Obama, or WW2.
I currently have two alternative ideas: Calculus and the Internet. Calculus shows how big of a nerd I am, so I'm a bit worried about doing it. The Internet could work, but I'd probably end up putting Pineapples and chinchillas all over the page, no one there would get it, and end up doing poorly, since this page is srsbsn in some kind of comeptetition. "GVC" pops up everywhere, google it? xP

So I come to you, SouthPerry, in my time of need, looking for ideas, people, and events that shaped the world. (In whole, or just the Western. Three teams, American, Polish, and Thai, so being selective is OK)

Why not do something simple like electricity or the wheel. Small stepping stones have large bases and you can also talk about how many other things they've led to.

Calculus and the internet are definitely things that have had huge impacts, but I think they're a bit risky topics that you might go blank on.

Alexander the Great united almost the entire known world. That's bound to be something. Hell you can even do the Persian empire the first ones to have states that could govern themselves-ish.

I say do it on the 300 spartans versus the Persian Empire.

The past shows us what to (not) do in terms of today's society. It's worth looking into.
If you want things, I suggest you do something along the revolution of paper, gunpowder, or weaponry in general.

For the properly motivated individual, I'm sure there's treasure troves worth of material in History, but I was trying to find something a little more recent. History gets really boring when you're researching it yourself.... D:

Microscopes, modern chemistry, space exploration, genetics, assembly line, printing press, telephone, cell phone, plastic, automobile, airplane.

And of course, the wonder of all world wonders, the hot sauce packet.

The Wright brothers are really important people that aren't often thought of. They opened up the entire world to us via aviation. Clearly it's not as important as day-to-day things like electricity but without aviation the entire world would be way less civilized and in terms of major catastrophes like Haiti, there would be very little fast-acting support.
