Probably pushing the nerdy limits, but some of these look good without being overtly Pokemon-ish to people who are none the wiser

Arcanon, Gyrados, Zapdos, Entei, and Ho-oh look best to me. You'd have to get someone who wouldn't pineapple up the Japanese style though, or it'd look like pomegranate.
