Recent hackings?

Recently I was hacked, or so I think I was. It was after the SC before the aran patch. I have not seen any posts about it here, so I checked SW/basil (I'm not a common poster there...) and alot of people lost there gear after the SC before the Aran patch. A freind of mine who has not played in months did also, and he said he has not been on in afew months, however he logged on for aran and found his gear missing, which was not before (I check my friends ranks ^^)

Now on SW all the mods/members instintly say: You where to loose with your info/don't download stuff on illegal sites you got keylogged.

However, I run CCleaner each morning and my Avast! I also don't download or torrent things. Noone has my information and there is no way for anyone to get it. Is there still a way for people to get hacked just by somone knowing your login? Its not like I give out my login, but would that be a way this could have happend?

Also SW/Basil seems to have figured that it has to do with the SC before the aran patch, that there was some kind of loophole/glitch since everyone has been hacked RIGHT after it.

Thoughts?

Hacking-theories are usually never worth mentioning. Usually, people would just scream that you've given out your info. I'm tempted to, but meh.

If I recall, the SC just before Aran was when they replaced the servers.
I recall reading that some people reported logging onto their own accounts and due to some glitch somehow having access to other people's characters. Then some took advantage of this and transferred stuff off, while others just played the characters, but left more subtle clues, like altered keyboard layout.

And yes, the forums are thick with hacking denialists who assume all 'hacks' are just from shared info or keyloggers.

happened to a friend, he sstill wondering what happened. 1 of his acc got hacked and everything is gonne. the other one is fine. thing is he played them both the previous day and he says he has never shared. he used a private mail for the acc and the mail is ok.

Similarly in Scania, though what usually happens is the e-mail gets hacked (usually a hotmail linked one.), and then the account soon follows suit.

5 people in 1-2 months, in my alliance and guild alone is scary. And from what I can tell it's the same person. Since I've attempted to converse with the hacker, and the usual speech he gives is that hotmail is not very safe to use.

ive shared info on one of my accounts, since i needed a zakum helm on my bucc and couldnt make it to my own guild's runs at the time due to work. So i gave info to the guild leader and no one else. That character didn't get hacked, it was my NL which i use as a shop mule, i dont even use that character's email for anything. Checked and didnt have any keyloggers or anything, nor would it make sense for them to "hack" the account that only has some money on it, and not the one with equips equaling several bil. And they didnt even take everything on that account, left a clean heavenly messenger and 5 bottom dex 60%s.

also, i dont even use hotmail, and very rarely use aim.

Could be that stealing money draws less attention than trying to resell expensive equipment.

Well, It could, however I lost all my equips and mesos, not that I had enough to make it worth while. 800mill in stuff for me is like a eternity.

It seems they got the accounts at random. Also, since they took nothing off my mules, which had afew mill and some scrolls. They took everything from storage. So I have a feeling however they do this its at random!

Edit. oh, and I don't use hotmail ether.

So for those of you that have been hacked, i wonder if you could clarify something. Was it just one character plus storage that lost stuff, or did you lose stuff from more than one character of one account? Because the latter requires relogging and means that they have your login info, whereas if it is just stuff lost from one character plus storage and mts but other chars (on same account) with valuable items were left intact, then that could imply that there exists a hack or glitch that does not require login info.
