I don't understand Mastery
#21
Sarah Wrote:Well, 60 is higher than 25 so it still explains the concern for mastery.

Yes. I should have corrected my previous sentence. STR does not add less than DEX. It nearly always adds more (still assuming, as before, we're talking swords). It's just that it tends to spread your damage range apart, while DEX does not.

Going to sleep for real now.

This is correct. Going by the formula, one point in STR adds a lot of maximum damage and a bit of minimum damage, but that bit is still larger than what one point in DEX gives.

Sarah, if you want to play with the formula, you can do so here. It's very simple to calculate your own damage - just plug in the numbers from your stat window.

Fiel Wrote:In a nutshell, for magicians:

INT:
Adds to MP regained per tick
Adds to MP per level
Adds a small, constant amount of damage per point
Base INT gives bonuses to Maple Hero
Includes all the benefits of MATK (because 1 INT also gives 1 MATK)

MATK:
Exponential for damage - each point in MATK is worth a little more in damage than the previous point
Adds a little bit to mastery per point

LUK plays no part in the magic damage formula.

Concerning the bolded parts:
-From what I've read around, MP recovery is affected only by your level in the skill "Improve MP recovery" and your actual level (something like +3 recovery each level) which are all built up on the MP recovery skill
-Damage grows quadratically with magic, not exponentially.
-LUK plays a part on the damage formula for HEAL.

Yeah, in general, int & matk both contribute to benefits. It's not good enough to have just one of them high - a better character has both higher, or one equal and one higher.

Because luk mages usually have less int, they're losing out on one of those stats. Unlike those damage flaunting threads might imply, your m.atk is not the only important stat - total INT does quite a few things for the character, some of them permanent (like the MP increase).

@ Fiel you have 1 thing wrong - MP regen is not based on int. It's 3 + 1.6*level. Or more specifically, the MP regen skill's level (max 16) * .1 * player level.
