This is a silly question, but do stimulators work the same way with maker as they do other forging npcs?
[As in can make your items worse as well as better, 10% chance to destroy the item and such]
Oh, and where would one find an overall stimulator?

Yeah, that's what it does. But I think your Hands stat (OH MY GOD IT HAS A USE) reduces the chance of it breaking.

Following up on the OP's question, can stimulators be used AFTER the forging process (Where you forge the weapon, grade it, etc), or does the stimulator have to be used right then and there?
If you can choose when you want to use a stim on something, it'd be cool to have Warriors/Buccs/Archers ask their Thief friends to help them stim their gear.

Right then and there. It's an optional ingredient that has to be included in the forging if you want to risk it.

Are stimulators really worth it? I would hate to have an item come out below average and pretty much waste all the effort put into making it.

Is there actually any solid, factual proof behind Hands affecting Maker forge success/improvement rates? I hear a lot of talk about it, but I haven't seen anything supporting it yet.
I mean, I hope it's true (I have 1021 Hands), but I'm skeptical.

What did it say? And how exactly does it work?

Well Stimulators have a 10% chance of breaking the equipment. How much more can Hands reduce the chance of breaking? To 5%? To 1%?
*Rolls a natural 1 on Stimulator chance*

It doesn't work like a chaos scroll, it either does nothing or increases something. There isn't really a way to tell what it does to the equipment (Stat-wise)

You know... If you're a Buccaneer/Warrior, you can't have a Thief/Mage/whatever make an item for you. Maker is class-specific, meaning you can only make equips for YOUR CLASS.

Page 6 and 7 of MSEA's maker guide book.
It must do something other than let the stats roam. Shrapnel of KMS got a 1 above average overall (on defence) with using a stimulator. Heck, overall stimulators don't even exist.
